Can I limit Midi thru on Track 1/Channel 1 to one octave around middle C?

Sonar X1 Studio

Can I limit Midi thru (realtime midi output) on Track 1/Channel 1 to one octave around middle C? I don't want my external Motif Rack to respond to any other notes on that channel. I couldn't find any note or split/zone filters in Sonar. I've only been using it for a couple of days. I couldn't find anything in the large pdf manual they gave me. I can do it with midiox/yolk, but I rather do it in Sonar.
I ordered Scott's Sonar Power! book, but it didn't get here yet.

   Thanks,

Not sure if Studio has midi track FX, but would be surprised if it didn't!

If it does then use the midi FX Event Filter. Right click on FX bin in your midi track, choose midi FX, and then select Event filter.
The GUI is self explanatory, but in case you need help hit F1

    Dear Cliff,

Thanks for your quick reply. Unfortunately after 45 minutes I still couldn't find the midi fx nor the midi fx bin in the help menu or in the midi track or anywhere else beside the browser where it wouldn't open up anything.

A search in the online help menu and the pdf manual showed nothing.

I may stick with my Atari <g>.

      Thanks again,
         Bill

    Dear Cliff,

I did a search for effects instead of fx and came up with the MFX Event Filter .

It appears that I can only apply it to notes that have already been recorded on a MIDI track. It doesn't affect the thru notes.

    I also found this:

SONAR lets you filter out specific types of MIDI messages or filter the MIDI input stream channel by channel. Any MIDI information that is filtered out is neither recorded nor echoed to any other MIDI devices.

The only problem with this is it filters all of the events in a category, filtering all notes or none. I can't define a range. This is the same on most sequencers. I was hoping Sonarx1 offered more specific choices.

Thanks again. I don't think I would have discovered these without your help. I may have to use midiox after all.
