Midi Issue ext. device

I don't get it. OK, so I have a Yamaha CS1X I decided to dust off and hook up. It's connected to the midi in and out of a M-Audio Axiom 61.  I'm able to record the midi events. But when selecting Axiom Out which is the only option, it doesn't play the midi events back. It looks like it is but I'm not hearing anything. The Axiom Midi out is connected to the CS1X.  I have both in and out so I can use it to input and output midi events but it's just not playing back. The green bar indicator is banging away. Any ideas?

Is your keyboard set to play back only one channel at a time?

Go through your chain of what's connected to the PC and that. I just want to be clear.

Look at section 4.1 in the Axiom manual. It's look like you have to alter the behaviour of the USB and midi output so it can be connected to a sound source (CS1X). Not sure if this is what you're after.

Hmm, it worked at one time.  There is performance and multi modes for GM. But I could always playback the performance as 1 midi track. You get 4 of what they call layers. If I remember correctly you can assign each layer a midi channel but it's been ages since I've used it.

It's something simple. Does it matter if Local is on or off? Trans and receive are set for channel 1.  I'll check out the Axiom manual and see what it says but, the only option I have for output is Axiom Out in the drop down menu on the track.

Local On/Off only affects whether you can trigger notes from the keyboard or not. Strikinglyhandsome1 posted the best way to troubleshoot the problem in that you have to check the chain of data. The first link in the chain is the keyboard. It has to be able to receive midi data. I would stick with Multi-Mode for playback because you should have at least 16 channels of independent midi data triggering your synth.

If transmit/receive is set to channel 1 then the keyboard will only recognize midi channel 1. If your midi track is sending to another channel then the keyboard won't play that data. You want the keyboard to recognize all 16 midi channels.

Of course, older devices often have limits to what they can do so digging into that is an important option.

See if it has anything on Midi Mode Omni-On/Poly.

Yeah you do have to change the USB midi behavior.  It's a bit confusing but it works. Thanks! OH, one last thing. Is there anyway I can make the event clicks go away. When I change the volume on that midi track or hit keys, you can hear the clicks and pops. Sorta like digital noise.

I see you do have a audio interface. Clicks and pops are caused by the audio drivers. Make sure your not using an on board sound card by mistake. Make sure you have the Windows 7 64 bit ASIO drivers for the MOTU. And PS your in the wrong forum for x1 questions.
