Flying On New Wings - redux
Here's a song I put on the forum last summer. I remixed it per your suggestions and then some, and then I put it aside until recently. I started playing with it again and here are the results. I hope to put this on my next CD project so your feedback will be welcome. I'm still quite flexible with this song. As always, many thanks in advance for taking the time. It can be found here: http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=11648441&q=hi Updated 5/17

My first time with this song. Great tune Lynn. Love the unusual time signature and arrangement. Sounds well mixed on crappy computer speakers (usually a good sign) - I will have another listen in the studio later.

Sounds pretty good here Lynn, but is heavily biased to the right side. It might be caused by a cymbal being very far right at the same time as the guitar. Maybe move the guitar left.

@ Daryl and Randall- thanks for taking the time and the kind words. @ foxwolfen- this is the kind of thing I'm looking for. It is an easy fix to balance the right and left sides, good catch.

Good tune lynn. I like the guitar work and every thing you have going on the left. Using automation on the guitar may work well on this one. in the breaks, but best in the intro. loved the bass, it was right on!!! Terry

Terry, thanks for the kind words. I did use automation on the remix I did today. The left-right balance should be better. Frank, coming from you that's quite a compliment. You're one of the people I set my bar to.

This is really cool, love the vox. Love everything about this, sounds a bit Reggae, with a touch of The Police. Mix and master are excellent. Nice. Neb

Listening in the cans (good ones). As a result, hard pans are a pet peeve of mine... On speakers it's less noticeable. Definite CSN/Wooden ships vibe (maybe meets Steve Miller?). The guitar (lead) in my right ear, something about the tone seems to make it stand out a little (a bit harsh or something) I think it's an EQ issue, but it seemed less noticeable as the song went on. The vox are great, and the performances are wonderful. I also like the pallet of instruments and the song overall. Good job.

I want to thank both of you for stopping by. @ bandontherun - I don't like hard pans so much, myself, so I put the guitar at 75% right and the electric piano at 75% left. I don't consider that to be hard panning, but I do like wide mixes and separation, so that's how I came to pan this song. I will play with the EQ of the guitar on the next mix so stay tuned. Lynn, Nice! I really like the chorus and lead gtr bridge - those are the standout parts for me. Very good playing and singing. If I were mixing it, I would love having all the backing lead gtr at my disposal - but I would probably not have it out there as much. My thought would be to give the listener something to surprise or to look forward to while hearing the song.
