USB to MIDI adapter (Ashton brand) using MIDI from external keyboard and hanging notes!?!?

Hi Guys,

I've been a user of sonar for quite a while as well as a couple of other DAW's and I am no experiencing a rather anoying problem.

I connect my USB to MIDI interface... connect my keyboard via MIDI cable... turn of my local to use it as a controller for Sonar.  All seems to work just fine for a couple of min's but then all of a sudden it hangs on a note.  To solve the problem I've had to start playback and then stop playback... then disconnect the keyboard and reconnect the keyboard.

I have never experienced this issue before with any other DAW. The USB to MIDI device runs very well when plugged into my mac book air so the device is not the fault here.

I have tried chopping and changing audio drivers to no avail.. currently testing ASIO4ALL v2.10 and still no luck.

My specs are:     Sonar X1 Producer
                           Alienware M15x
                           i7 Q840 CPU
                           8GB RAM
                           500GB 7200rpm HD
Doesnt matter what audio interface I use =(

Just wondered if anyone else has encountered this problem before?  The only solution I can see right now is to either switch to using a Mac (i would like very much to avoid this) or purchasing a new USB MIDI controller keyboard.

Anyone care to share some love ;b

If it's one of the cheaper USB to MIDI cables I'll take a bet the problem lies there. I bought one just to be able to program my GT-6 effects pedal from my laptop so thought a cheap one would do.

Big fail. Some of them don't transmit Sysex messages at all hence it never did work for me. I'm guessing that's what is happening for you.

I now have a fetching MIDI/USB dog lead.............

Hi mate and thanks for the reply,

I did think that was possibly an issue at first but the price tag on the device wasnt cheap and I can successfully send sysex messages to and from my keyboard.

The problem is only with playing the keyboard as a controller.

It has zero problems when used on a Mac book air... sometimes i might get a good 4 to 5 min's use out of it on my PC but then all of a sudden the problem hits me like a brick wall.

My main issue is that I already know Sonar and want to fix the issue without having to spend even more dollars! ;b

    Ok, that's ruled out then...........

Have you tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling? You can do that from Computer-->Properties-->Device Manager? The MIDI devices list in the audio/video section.

yes mate. I work in IT for a living so all of the obvious stuff here as been tried.

I thought maybe someone else has had a similar issue before?  I see similar issues mentioned with other DAW's but unfortunately none with Sonar X1.

I have tried various drivers and audio interfaces but nothing seems to fix the issue.

Thing is... If go out and spend $$$$'s on a shiny new controller KB will I get the same results?!? ;b
