Importing Tascam Digital Recordings

Help!Forgive my noobness. :) So I have got a Tascam Digital Recorder which I have made a recording on. I would like to import my files to sonar home studio xl. When I do import them the files are distorted, which after some reading here, I've determined is probably a bit rate issue. Sure enough I looked at the property details of my file and it is a 64 bit recording. So...how do I get it into a format that sonar will process correctly?? Also, when in the import dialogue...although it is an mp3, when I hit play I get a message that says "cannot play wav file" ??

you need to go into preferences and under audio or imported audio untick a box that say "import audio at its timestamp"
may not be exactly like this because i dont have hs7 loaded up
but its something along these lines.

wish i could be more of an asstince.

i used to do it from my 2488neo

but i exported all my files in wave 16 bit.

    it made things alot easeir.

Thanks for your input!! Maybe I'm not looking in the right place but I can't find preferences for any audio. I do have a drop down audio menu but with nothing in reference to imported audio... Suggestions?

Of course as soon as I post that I find the menu I need! :) However, the box is already unchecked.

    Welcome to the forum.
I think you should start with the TASCAM. A 64 kbps mp3 isn't going to be good quality anyway. That's about the lowest quality you can have.
When saving in or exporting from the TASCAM, or importing into your computer, you should render it at either 44,100 or 48,000 Hz @ 16- or 24-bits.

Thanks Gregy... The Tascam was recording at 44,100 @64bits. Not kbps. I can change the settings to record at a lower bit rate, which I have done now after encountering this problem. But I was still hoping to be able to use the recording I have at 64bits. Although, from everything I've read...this bit rate is not really supported yet. Unless...you know differently?! :) Thanks again!

    Yeah, it's my home.
    What model TASCAM is it?
What procedure did you use to get the song from the TASCAM to the computer to SONAR?
Which version of SHS XL do you have (4, 6, 7)?

TASCAM DR-40 and I use Sonar XL 6 I took the SD card and put it in my comp...then when in program after creating a new project (normal), imported audio and selected it from the card. It imports it but the file is unusable...as you can imagine. :)

According to TASCAM's product page, that would be impossible. Maybe you mean 24-bit?

    WAV / BWF
44.1kHz/48kHz/96kHz, 16/24 bit (Stereo or Mono)
    MP3
     44.1kHz/48kHz, 32k/64k/96k/128k/192k/256k/320kbps

Since you already wrote that it's an mp3, I'm pretty sure that it's 64 kbps.
Try importing the song(s) into your My Music folder to see if they sound better through Windows Media Player or other music player.
If it does, try importing them into SONAR from My Music.
