Envelope nodes pushing each other around

I am using envelopes for the first time, to even out a live bass track.

I am having the following difficulties:

1. If I just want to lower a section, must I really make FOUR nodes, two on each end of a section?

2. How can I move a node horizontally and be absolutely sure I'm not moving another node further down the line?

3. How can I move a node vertically without accidentally moving it horizontally? (ctrl seems to be the the other way around)

4. How can I move a vertical bar, again without moving another node somewhere else?

5. How can I bounce down the final result to clip?

The manual is minimally helpful. It tells you more what it can do, rather than the details of how to do it.

    1. Yes
    2. Wont select the other nodes
    3. Your mouse controls the way it moves. so move your mouse vertically, if you want to move it vertically.
    4. Click the the envelope between the nodes and the "bar' as you can it will move up and down
    5. There are many ways to bounce, so you can bounce it down to another track or export it out of the project. I'm sure you bounced things before. its the same with or without envelopes on your tracks.

    +1 to CJ's comments

If the time line has a darker section on it where a section has been selected the nodes can move together as you have discovered...... so to get rid of that I simply click in another track....one click and that clears the selected area (dark grey on timeline and in track vanishes) and now I can edit nodes as I want.....individually.

When editing nodes, I always like to zoom in so I can get "surgical" edits that are precise.  How far you need to zoom depends on the edit. It's possible to edit out a one cycle click by zooming and in my experience, that click will simply disappear sonically.

Regarding this: 1. If I just want to lower a section, must I really make FOUR nodes, two on each end of a section?

All you do is use the smart tool to drag a selection where you want to lower the section, then put your mouse pointer towards the top of the clip in the selection and drag down. This will automatically create all 4 nodes at your selection point. It's really fast once you get the hang of it.

No. Swipe select & then click drag in the top 25% of the track as shown here

    2. How can I move a node horizontally and be absolutely sure I'm not moving another node further down the line?

Click on the clip before clicking on the node you do want to move.

    3. How can I move a node vertically without accidentally moving it horizontally? (ctrl seems to be the the other way around)

Hold down shift while moving. That will constrain the movement either vertically or horizontally depending on which movement you make first

    4. How can I move a vertical bar, again without moving another node somewhere else?

Not sure what you meant there

    5. How can I bounce down the final result to clip?

Select Tracks--->Bounce to track from the TV menu and ensure that "Track Automation" is selected in the pre-bounce dialogue box.

FWIW, you don't NEED to bounce it down afterwards.

It consumes practically zero resources and leaving it unbounced leaves your options totally open.

What if you do bounce it and at some point in the future you decide your automation was wrong?
