Why does Sonar crash?
I read people on here complaining about Sonar crashing and when I'm having a good run with Sonar I wonder what the fuss is about. Tonight I've been using my new Rapture, just playing with a drum patch. The first crash came when I was using the Pro Channel in the Track View. I was adding some hi eq as the midi pattern I created looped and Sonar stopped and died. I saw this as an opportunity to remind myself to save as I lost everything! After waiting for Sonar to stop running in the background I started again. Same simple track with just Rapture playing drums, I had Pro Channel on (editing in the Console View) and was using the Channel Tools to mess with the stereo image and again Sonar crashed. This time I had regularly saved so I haven't lost anything but I have to ask why Sonar does this? No third party plugins, gigs of ram available and minimal cpu usage and yet it doesn't want to do a simple thing. Grum.

Did you send in the crash log? Although I also just did the Rapture upgrade (how couldn't I?) and would hate to think this, it's possible that the cause is actually a combination of Rapture along with something else.. where removing that one ingredient changes everything. One thing for sure - I'll be very careful when trying out Rapture drum patches along with Pro Channel!

Adjusting the EQ in Pro Channel is exactly what cause my stop engine problems. The CW tech guy told me it might be a hardware conflict. I'm still looking into it.

I have found that almost 100% of the time when Sonar crashes for me it is related to the bit bridge when I have 32 bit plugs running while using Sonar at x64.... Hence, the reason why I think VST developers all need to convert their plugs to 64 bits. UAD is in the process of doing this now and perhaps once that is done, I will stop using any 32 bit plugs. Bakers, HERE THAT, get your CAKE plugs ported over too. Your bit bridge technology doesn't work as good as you thought it would. Jim

I can't say why you're having problems, but Rapture is a go-to synth for me. Last night I was developing more music for my music library and opened eight projects over the course of the evening, all of which used anywhere from 6-8 Raptures per project. Not a single hiccup, BUT no filmscore pack installed...

jkleban : Most of the Cake plugins are 64bit now .... They can't be responsible for 3rd party developers .... no ? For me Rapture LE (s'all I have) is also 64 bit. Are you running 64 bit Windows and 64 bit Sonar ? Cheers, Jerry
