Midi devices not appearing on the menu list

 Hello all

One little problem...My new Korg padkontroller and M audio Axiom 49 keyboard controller does not appear on the list in the midi device  Ins/ Out preffence page. I have installed  the latest drives for both devices. The funny thing is..  they  prefectly in studio B where I am  working with sonar 8.5   Anyone have any solutions...? I have updated to Sonar X1D so this is not one the reasons.

Thanking you
carlisle Oneal.

No MIDI device in Preferences-->MIDI devices indicates a driver installation problem. Do you mean that it is working on the same system in 8.5 but not X1 though? If that's the case that is a very strange issue.

I have a smaller studio in another room in my house..which I am using  Sonar 8.5   I install the latest drivers and connected theses devices..korg padkontroller and M audio Axiom 49 keyboard  and everything works perfectly.  But When tried to connect them to Sonar X1 producer  which is in another room they do not appear in the preference menu for selection. I have trun off the computer  and relaunch sonar many times, still the same situation... Should I uninstall and reinstall the drivers ?

Yes. An uninstall and reinstall of the drivers is a good starting point. Until they appear in the MIDI device list they will remain inaccessible to Sonar. The fact they aren't there indicates a driver problem.

Which Windows OS are you using? XP for example has a limit of 10 midi device drivers, and the same device plugged into various USB ports over time is counted as multiple devices.

see here http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/20090210 & here http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=1645429&mpage=1&print=true for some more info on XP's issue.

To add to what Ducatibruce2 has said,  it is important that you always plug USB devices in the same  port that you installed on. I have 10 USB devices hung on my ADK main system and have each port numbered and the usb Device labeled to make sure that I always put them back in the same port whenever I have to open up the system. Works without an issue but it was a real problem before I learned this years ago.

    Best,

    Danny

The Korg PadKontrol Midi Driver Uninstall utility is a handy way of checking how many (& which) midi drivers are on your system. It lists midi drivers from the registry before doing any uninstall stuff.

    Hi there

Installation of the Padkontroller (or any Korg device for that matter) is a two-fold process. After installing the main driver, you then need to run a utility which you'll find in your Korg folder in Start / All Programs. I'm away from my DAW at the moment and can't recall exactly what this is called but will confirm later on.

Anyway, running this utility will display a dialog box asking which Korg device you wish to install, and below this is a list of all the Korg devices on your system. Click on PadKontrol, then click OK and after some faffing about, the installation will be complete. If you had Sonar running while you did this, you'll need to close and restart it. Then it will see the PadKontrol.

Don't forget also you'll need to go into Preference / MIDI Devices and check the boxes for your new hardware in the input and output sections.
