Dropping Already Completed Session Drummer 3 into seperate folders
I have Sonar X1 Producer and I built the drums using Session Drummer 3 into a single track - without separating bass, snare, hi-hat, etc. I've watched some of the recent videos and saw how you could separate the tracks and create a folder. Is there a way I can take what I've already done so I can just separate the tracks? I tried creating a new folder and copying and pasting, but it just does not seem to work right and I can only here the bass drum in Track 1? Help?!?! Does my dilemma even make sense? Thanks in advance.

☄ Helpful
Hard to explain writing but Right click on the left side in Track View/Insert Track Folder Then up top-INSERT/Soft Synth/Session Drummer > Repeat this for each piece (HH, Snare, Kick, etc...) Highlight all the tracks for session drummer/right click/Move to Folder (the one you just created) Now I think you can go in and copy the midi notes in PRV and paste them onto the individual tracks you created--Dont forget to label the created tracks so you know which one your working on Something to that effect

An easier way might be to copy the track you have now 5 or so times and rename them to the individual parts. Then open each ones PRV, Zoom way out and lasso and delete the notes you dont want-Sounds easier than copy and paste thing LOL Good luck Let us know what works for ya

its midi right? if you have a session drummer 3 midi track with all your drums on that one track, just insert a whole new session drummer 3 into your project. when the synth preference menu opens up,select all audio outputs stereo now open up session drumer three click on the mixer/each track needs to have a different number 1-12 drag the midi track you made with your first session drummer track and put it in the session drummer 3 sets midi track, not the kick or the snare, exc.its got to be in the ssession drummers track(youll see it ,it looks different from the rest of them and is usualy at the bottom..:go figure right?) the reason you could only hear the bass drum was because you probably fropped the midi track on to the kick drums track and not the drum track. good luck

I'll test shortly to make sure it's this simple but: Create a new session drummer 3 track with seperates and simply copy your step sequencer file to the new instance. You can go into SD# and change the output channels to go to the individual outputs

No, no, no. All you have to do is create X number of new audio tracks for however many of SD3's sounds you want to have their own outputs. Then select each input as 'SD3 Output 1, SD3 Output 2, etc. Then go to the mixer page in SD3 and change the numbers at the bottom of each strip to go out different outputs (Kick 1, Snare 2, HiHat 3, etc.). Then select all SD3 tracks, right click, and choose 'Move to New Folder'. HTH. SP

LOL! I guess it was a good question for a lot of us! I used to do my drums in a very old version of Fruity Loops and had to do mixing there, but adding effects was close to impossible, especially for each individual sound. Needless to say, now that I am growing in my art and hobby, trying to eq and compress a bass, snare, hi-hat, etc all together as one track is not only hard, but it just doesn't sound all that good because they're acting on different frequencies... Thanks. This is an awesome community of musicians and recording folk!

I'm glad you guys learned something. Of course, now you can have your drum parts separated so you can mix each part with its own ProChannel. Then rout each track to the same bus and mix the overall drum mix with its own ProChannel. Have fun and happy mixing! SP

Thanks Seth. I'm looking forward to mixing with the ProChannel actually. The last time I mixed and mastered it was in Sonar Producer 8.5. I just upgraded to X1 a couple months ago. I'm working on several new projects and can't wait to get all the parts recorded so I can start mixing. I enjoyed your "LIVE" segment on CakeTV, BTW. Keep 'em coming.

Keep 'em coming. man i live for those cake tv videos, i just seem to learn more from seth and his way of explaining it. i imagine its because of experience and being able to relate to a user of all levels(novice-expert) id like to see them expand on those videos and put out a series. i think all users would benifit from that. as a matter of fact. i completely think another session drummer 3 video is in order, im hearing more and more questions lately about the internal engine, bonified questions. like how to replace a hi hat with both samples in the same channel. or how to preview samples before loading them.im aware the browser can do alot but im not sure if it can preview the flack samples required to get an idea of the replcements

I tried and failed many times until I realized I was trying to have the input as SD3 Mono tracks (duh?). I finally pulled up the Browser on X1 and just dropped the multi out for the drums I liked and it created the folder and outputs for me. I then just grabbed my original drum created single track from SD3 and dropped it in the main midi file on top. It worked! I now have the single tracks I was looking for and it was super easy. I just had to change the buss on a couple and delete a few extra unnecessary tracks! Thanks for everyone's assistance!

Hi Jason, I got your PM but figured it would be best to answer you here, if you don't mind, so that others may see the answer and learn how to do it. When reassigning the outputs to new audio tracks, use the stereo inputs on the tracks. So, for SD3 output 1, choose SD3 1/2 for the input of the track. For output two, choose SD3 3/4. output 3 is SD3 5/6, etc. Just remember that they're stereo pairs and that's all you have to do. HTH. SP
