Staff view notation problem
I must have hit a key or something but whenever I enter a note, it does not go to it's exact place. I enter a note on the and of beat one but it does not go exactly there even though it looks like it. It is somehow off. It used to be I could drag notes around and they moved according to the snap settings but now they seem to want to go anywhere. Anyway, I can't figure out how to get it back to normal. Any help is apprciated.

Its the snap to / by settings. Its a 'fix' thats made x1 unuseable for practical staff view use. (imo) .

I've tried them both. What I don't get is this problem just started happening seemingly without reason. It is definitly a show-stopper. I'm hoping it's just a key I hit by mistake.

not sure this helps...I look at Staff View, but edit and input using Piano View.

I appreciate the thought Jimbo. It takes way to long to input in the PRV. By the time I get one measure done I could be halfway through something. Maybe this is some kind of bug? I set the "snap to" setting to "measure." With that setting it would normally put the note only at the beginning of the measure. It goes anywhere now.

Not sure if this will help but check your magnetic strength settings. Whatever it's set to now, change it to something totally different

I think it's a case of "mine is broke." I was just on the phone with Dean (very patient) at tech and we could not figure it out. We tried the magnetic strength and other possibles but no joy. :-(

Are you using Step Record to enter the notes in Staff View? I used the draw/erase tools in staff view for years until changes in X1 slowed that down and now find entry via Step Record much quicker.

I've not tried that Combo. I've never used step record so I'll have to get back to you on it.

Not only the snap to settings but also the note resolution setting will determine to some extent where you can place a note on the staff. If you right click on the note, a note properties window opens and allows you to adjust the EXACT location and pitch of the note as well as some other things like duration. Check that resolution thing.....if you are entering all, or mostly eighth notes be sure the resolution is set to 1/8 and it will drop the note on the closest 1/8 division of the measure. If you have the resolution set to 128th notes your note can literally be dropped in anywhere on the time scale. It's easy to overlook the resolution setting and once you know where it is, changing it on the fly is easy.

Thanks Guitarhacker. Those were just a few of the things I tried. I did get it fixed though. I un-installed then re-installed X1. It has not happened yet (fingers crossed). As far as I can tell, my previous install of X1 must have destablized. I had been getting crashes a lot and it was annoying. I suspect that a lot of people having crashes all the time may need to do a re-install. The jury is not out yet since I'll need a few days to see if X1 crashes again. We'll see how it goes.
