Out of memory

Whenever I try to import an mp3 into my project, I get "out of memory" error.

I'm using Sonar X1 Studio 64-bit (with latest patches and updates). My ASUS i7 laptop has 12 GB of RAM. I'm not doing anything extraordinary in this project.

Thanks,
Mike

I converted it to WAV, and it imported fine. Maybe there's an issue with importing MP3s?

Wouldn't importing an MP3 actually be more work for the system than a WAV? You know uncompressing/decoding it into a suitable format?

On earlier versions of Cakewalk products, I got this error when the plug-in (DX or VST) was not installed properly.  Reinstalling it would fix the problem.  Just a guess since the new Sonar versions may act differently.

If it's an MP3 with extra data added like the cover art etc for playing back and looking good on an iPod this will happen.

Search the forum and you'll find that this is more a Windows problem than Cakewalk.

Well that's good to know. I'd imagine there is a way to strip an mp3 of that data. Perhaps not.

IIRC its a Windows problem, as mentioned in one of Noel Borthwick's post where Windows Explorer can't read the latest 2.4 mp3 tags.

Do you have an MP3 encoder to import and export MP3 files?

You can have the MP3 encoder feature activated in Sonar by buying it at the Cakewalk E store or buy getting a free one from the internet.  I believe the free one is called LAME encoder that stands for "Lame Aint an MP3 Encoder".

If remembering back correctly, I believe that I was getting an error like that also before I purchased mine from the Cakewalk store.  It does not do all MP3s though.  Not sure if the free one does either.

    Cheers,

    Wave
