Finally tried BFD2 Demo
I'm loving this product so far. The interface is great, in particular their mixer. Sonar could be better if it was to adopt a couple of their ideas. Something simple like the pop-up routing indicators really help visualize what's going on. They even have their own version of the Pro Channel. I've been struggling with Kontakt 5 and Studio Drummer and I don't think I'll struggle for much longer now that I've tried BFD2. The sounds don't seem to be as polished, but there's way more flexability and tweaking is pretty easy. Seems like the most comprehensive drum software I've looked at so far. My only question is on the output routing for BFD2. I find it very difficult to route Kontakt drums to individual tracks in Sonar and was hoping that BFD2 would be easier. I can't tell that due to limitations in the BFD2 demo. It can't be used as a plug-in so routing issues are still unknown. If you have experience with part of BFD2 please let me know. Life is too short for Kontakt drums. Off to put in a feature request for pop-up routing guides in Sonar's console view. Have a good one.

Routing in BFD is easy peasy, especially compared to Kontakt which is totally un-intuitive. The drums don't sound as polished because they are left "dry" for you to process...with the plugs that are included in BFD or in Sonar using Cake's or any third party VSTs. You're gonna love BFD ol pal. Good choice.

From the product page, click on the web shop link and the special price is displayed (or at least it is for me). I originally got sent a link to the shop page but I've deleted it - sorry. If you don't have success following the link as I describe, perhaps someone else can send you a copy from the email.

So, in a nutshell which kits are $10? The $50 ones? The $79 ones? The $125 (and greater) ones? Or is it just individual kit pieces?

I'd buy the Heavy & Jex if they were $10 each. I'd buy the deluxe if it was $10.

As has already been stated, routing in BFD2 couldn't be easier. There are 2 sets of routing - one is to route the individual kit pieces to the relevant Audio tracks in Sonar, the second is to route the different articulations to their own Midi note so that your drum map lines up. You are going to absolutely love what you can do with it, but beware - you can spend hours tinkering with the different options available!!

Thanks Jonesey, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. Right now I'm spending too much time trying to get the routing done and not enough on the tinkering. Now to find a sale.

Well - I got BFD eco a while ago for just € 29,-. And this month I can upgrade to the full BFD 2 for € 74,- Needless to there was no way I could refuse the offer - especially because BFD eco gave me a great sound and flexibility. Yes - the kit piece sounds are just "raw", but -like it is said above- you get a full set of plugs that can be used. These guys make great software. I also bought DCAM: Synth Squad a while ago, and really love this synth-set. I am now waiting until the package will be delivered (I bought the DVD set in stead of the download version)...

" The kit pieces are just raw"- I had the opposite experience with BFD 2 kits. When you initially launch the program all of the busses are up and feeding all of the mikes. As a result my kits were sounding a little over processed until I tamed some of those buss settings. In some cases you might not need the room mikes at all. I love the mixer in BFD2 and the plugs-ins included with it. So much can be accomplished there. In fact I see nothing wrong with feeding the mix via only two inputs into Sonar and doing the rest in the program mixer. The thing is you can do it either way and having a nice mixer in BFD makes that approach feasible.

So glad I discovered this thread as I thought I'd missed the £7 sale but found the link and am downloading now. Most unlike me to have missed this one :) Really like the tight metallic snare of the Jex kit. Steve Just thought I'd give some advice about installation paths as I see so many people on the fxpansion forum getting in to trouble and I do think the installer needs better instructions (or just a better installer) All my BFD2 data + expansion packs are on an external drive. On that drive I have a folder named, FXpansion and in that folder I created folders for each of the expansion kits. So there is a folder named BFD2 into which all the kits that came with BFD2 are installed. I just created a folder within the fxpansion folder called, BFD Jex Kit and installed all the data there, I also have a number of other expansion kits all with their own folder and all inside the mother folder, fxpansion. I never have problems with missing kit pieces although sometimes the installer will install not just the data but the kits, grooves and presets to the same folder so you might have to locate them to their correct folder which is usually, C:\Program Files (x86)\FXpansion\BFD2\System. Hope that helps someone. Steve
