Roland Groove Synth crashes all versions of Sonar I have
I was going through my list of soft synths, wanting to see if there were some I could toss out, if I could learn more about under-used ones etc. I hadn't tried opening the Roland Groove Synth in ages - Over and over, it crashes Sonar 8.5.3 32 bit version when I try to open it. I tried it with other versions of Cakewalk I still have on this computer - same story with all of them. It's probably no big loss to not have this synth working - but still, it bugs me. Any info? RB

I just inserted it into a 44.1 kHz project as an instrument track and it works fine (8.5.3). It shows up in the plugin manager in Shared Dxi, filename C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared DXi\P5antom\P5antom.dll
I don't know where the sample content is located but maybe something got moved or deleted?

Hi, Chappel - Thanks for checking it out. That Dxi .dll file is there in the same place as you found yours. Just now, through the Plug-in Manager, I deleted it from my pre-set list, re-inserted it. Still the same issue - instant crash. Oh well! Thanks anyway, I appreciate it. RB

is this a 64bit computer , randy? if so it won't work unless you install the 64bit version of sonar (or just the 64bit version of groove synth if that's possible, I don't know).
32bit DX apps won't work on 64bit OS's.

HI, Beagle, thanks for the response. Yeah, it's a 64 bit machine, but I'm using 32 bit Sonar so I can still use everything I'm used to. 32 bit VSTs work fine in 32 bit Sonar when I open it - But do you mean that the DX plugins are different, and won't work on this machine even though I'm using 32 bit Sonar? R

Yes, that's correct. 32bit VST's should work fine, but not 32bit DXi's or DX's. the DX based instruments and plugins have to be updated to work in 64bit Operating System because they're Microsoft DirectX based applications.
if you install the 64bit version of the DX's / DXi's then those will work.

Thanks very much for this info, Beagle--I didn't know this before! The 64 bit versions of DX/DXis will work in 32 bit Sonar though?--or just 64 bit?-- And I don't think there's an updated 64 bit version of this Groove Synth--But if that's right, it's OK, it's not as if I'm hanging on the edge here wanting this thing to work. hehe. R

oh - that's a good question that I wasn't thinking of - you're right they won't work in 32bit sonar.
I don't remember if groove synth was updated or not. they did update some of the DX's and DXi's to 64bit such as the Sonitus plugins, and I know some of the synths were done as well, but I really don't remember if groove synth was or not.
