About spring sale items

I currently have Sonar X1 Producer and I'm looking at some items in the spring sale and trying to figure out if they're worth getting: 1)Producer Expanded 2) Rapture upgrade from LE version This is obviously subjective, but if most users find these very useful and great deals at the price, might tip me to purchase. Does the Producer expanded make it easier to enter lyrics or is that only if you purchase additional notation programs? My main interest is in writing songs, recording Midi piano with which I'll drive other soft synths as well. Potentially interested in making sound effects for games if Cakewalk would be useful for that. Thanks for any replies.

It is normally not my nature to steer anyone away from upgrading to the latest, greatest version of Sonar... but, in your case, it might not be money well spent. Expanded is more about mixing/mastering tools for the engineer side of the creator, and - while any user could benefit from them - these tools are not necessary for the type projects you will be doing.

I will suggest, however, that you consider the upgrade to the full-blown version of Rapture (along with the Film Score expansion pack that is also only $19.95 through today) for the video game sound effects. For your music projects, what you have (with the occasional expansion for Dim Pro, etc) should be enough.

(EDIT: Regarding lyric entry, what there is in Producer is what there is. Nothing about that changed with the Expanded package.)

I see where OlSkool is coming from and has your best interest in mind. With respect to that, I do disagree. I would add the expanded package in a heart beat. It changed the way I work with Sonar and also made dialing in the sounds I want much easier. You already have the top of the line flagship software Cake has to offer, and for $20 (I think today is the last day) you will be set for all future updates that cater to expanded users. I bought expanded in the last sale and it was the best bang for my dollar in quite a while.

Oh, I whole-heartedly agree, David; as I said, ANY user can benefit from the Expanded upgrade. If Mosk wants to spend $60 (instead of the $40 I suggested), he will be getting the best suite of tools for that price he could find anywhere (IMHO). I was just approaching it from a pragmatic view; he presented himself as more of a creator than an audio engineer/creator, and I wanted to be sure he understood the Expanded upgrade would not help him with lyric entry, etc.

But I have to agree... for an extra $20, how can he go wrong?

Thanks to both of you for the responses, and for the added context so I know exactly where you're coming from. Wasn't sure if the 'expanded pack' would carry forward in future upgrades because I didn't know if the 'expanded' thing was a routine feature for Sonar Producer or just a one time thing with X1. Also, I do want to get more into mixing and mastering - and I've watched a bunch of Groove 3 tutorials and done some limited mixing & mastering with my own songs. Going to read back through some of the descriptions then make my purchases before the sale disappears. Thanks for the help.

Ended up getting Rapture. Thought about the Film Score expansion but held off since I probably won't get to making game sounds for quite some time. As for Expanded, in the middle of waffling back and forth, and eventually leaning toward purchasing, I was checking my serial codes and add on packages and realized I'd bought the expanded some months ago during a $10 sale! Have now installed that along with SonarX1 D update and going through some more tutorials. Thanks again for the input.
