So it's settled, I'm getting the Scarlett 18i6 this week...
Just got a reply from Focusrite after sending them my system specs and DAW software details. They say there are no known compatibility issues with the device, drivers or software/plugins and my system or X1. I'm PUMPED!

@John... Well I haven't been able to really set up the rig to play around with it for the past week (super busy with other stuff) so I've just been here trying absorb as much knowledge and watching what other users problems are. With your help and the help of others here I think I should at the very least be able to get through the tutorials and record some simple tracks. Thanks guys... and thanks to Cakewalk and Focusrite for having impeccable customer service.

I my experience, Focusrite's drivers are absolutely rock solid. I'm still running my ageing Saffire Pro 26IO and even though there's no current 64 bit driver for it, Focusrite recommended a driver that is 100% compatible. Zero problems with it so far.

That's what I like to hear. I do intend on maybe buying something a little fancier down the road but I'd like to know I can use this current set up for years to come if need be. Also if the Scarlett ends up kicking extreme ass I might just get the octo pre thingy and not bother with anything else.

I'm definitely curious to see how you make out... I've been going back and forth between the 18i6 and the OctaCapture for a while now. I know that the OctaCapture is pretty well rated in most respects, particularly with SONAR X1, but at 2X the $$ I'm not sure if I'd actually get 2X the performance... low latency under decent loads being one the key aspects I'm looking for.

I'll definitely let you guys know how it's working out. I won't really be able to give any real comparisons though as this will be the first modern i/o on this system.

Using Scarlett 18i6 on X1d on a x64 machine - no problems. Love it!

I was interested in the 8i6, but have been hearing a lot of reports of poor performance at low latency. Has this been fixed?

From what I understand there have been a lot of fixes. I don't have the box in hand yet though so I can't comment on latency. How long ago did you hear this? You may be experiencing the hesitance I was. I've heard the concerns and looked around and contacted FR themselves and I have been assuaged of those fears. BUT... as I said I don't have the box in hand. I'll let you all know how it works out.

I have had a Scarlett 18i6 for almost a year with no problems whatsoever. I love mine - I hope you have similar luck with yours.

I have had a Scarlett 18i6 for almost a year with no problems whatsoever. I love mine Where do you typically have your latency set, and at what CPU load (on average)? I'm trying to gauge how the 18i6 performs in the 50-70% CPU range. I'm currently running an older Q9300 2.5GHz Quad Core, but I imagine the CPU/latency performance wouldn't be drastically different. I hope.

I have mine set, most times at 5 ms, but it will work comfortably lower at 3 ms.

Struggling to find a find project where it went up to 50% Found one that went to 48%. 32 tracks with 9 synths, some audio and some midi. 5ms worked fine. Computer quad i7 2.93 W7 x64 I had a Fast Track Ultra before which occasionally induced a blue screen. Not even had a crash since I got the 18i6. Currently working on 1950's pastiche so doesn't require many tracks just someone who can play a 50's guitar solo better than me!

Thanks, Benny Bear, I appreciate the additional info. You're running a more powerful machine - I7 2.93GHz vs. Q9300 2.5GHz - but comfortably running 5ms at 48% CPU seems OK to me.

The Scarlett 18i6 is a very good choice for an interface in that price range. It may very well be the best of the bunch. I don't see anything as good, with as many inputs as the Scarlett for the same price. The Octacapture isn't bad either but could use a few more inputs.

Hey, millzy. I gotta wait until next week to order it (no cash right now). I'd say barring any catastrophes I'll have it hooked up and running in a couple of weeks. Kind of anti climactic I know but it's pretty much a done deal at this point. Will definitely let you guys know. Cheers!
