Sharing projects with X1 Essentials

I'm recording a few songs with a bass player/keyboardist friend in another town. We both have Sonar X1. I'll be using a few simamp/softsynth/MIDI plugins, like Amplitube Fender and EZDrummer that he doesn't own (and they're not free at $200 each, so he won't be getting them). And he'll have a few I don't own. How does that work? Will the project sound the same on both ends?

You can bounce to track and use the audio to share the project with him. He can do the same on his end.

I assume that means creating an audio track from a dry track and a plug in? I've been using DAWs for a few years but am still a bit of a noob!

Yep, I use freeze myself. It does the same thing but its so much more convenient.
I said to use bounce to tracks only to make it a little easier to understand the concept.
The audio files will be in the audio folder of your project as long as you use per project folders. That is a settings in Preferences.
