What's Going on With Levels

Issue 1: Ivory II Grands is loud sometimes and quiet sometimes, even when I have the fader automated and the volume level inside the plug-in is not changing. Tonight, on a track with no automation and no sends, it was LOUD, and even when I pulled the fader all the way down, it still played loud enough for the track. WTH? Issue 2: When recording vocals they sound moderate to quiet. When playing them back (without touching the fader) they are LOUD. This was not a problem before but now it is a problem on every track and in every project. WTH? What is going on?

issue1: Couldn't this be a bug in Ivory II Grands, if it only happens to this plug?
Have you searched their forums for this problem?
(didn't know about Ivory II Grands before.. sounds great!)

issue2: How's your input monitoring configured? Do you have input monitoring
activated on the track you're recording or are you monitoring the signal via,
for example, some direct monitoring built in to your audio interface software,
    or a hardware mixer?

I am using a V-Studio 700.  Tracks all go to Master.  Master goes to Main.  Monitors are KRK Rokit 6s and Bose headphones connected to V-Studio.  To record and mmonitor input:

    • I enable record on the track and click the echo icon (blue icon).
    • Press record.
    • When I playback the signal sounds louder, whether the echo is on or off.

This is a new problem eventhough I have not (knowingly or intentionally) changed anything in the configuration.

    That's really strange! =/
First I though.. Maybe he forgot to send the v-studio input to main out in VS-700R I/O editor.. but that can't be it either right? Cuz if you have echo on, you should hear exactly what's sent to this track..

Since you haven't changed any in the configuration, could it be like.. 3rd party software related? Any strange plugins on the track that doesn't work well with input echo..?

    I don't know... Just brainstorming here.. =/

Thanks, Loptec, and all.  My system has never been stable and I have had strange problems with Preferences changing themselves.  I don't use any plugs that I think would be weird: just pretty stable virtual instruments like Vienna, Hollywood Strings, RealGuitar, a couple of Vir2 Kontakt libraries, etc.

Here is what the Sweetwater technician said.  He is very smart, but in this case he is at the disadvantage of just responding to email without acutally seeing what's going on so this may or may not be the answer.  (He said this could also cause the vocal hiss.)

Sweetwater: I would double check your controller/surfaces menu in prefs and be sure the console is still configured on the correct ports (VS700 Console).  Also you might want to try disabling the IO midi ports in your MIDI prefs. Obviously by doing this you may change the MIDI routing or track routing so after disabling it, if you get any weirdness just go back and look at inputs and outputs again for Audio and MIDI in your session.
