Sonar 4 Producer and Windows 7

I've been using Sonar 4 Producer for quite a while, and just purchased a more powerful Windows 7 computer to finish my album with, as I kept running out of CPU space. However, I am unable to Install the program. I get the menu screen and choose to Install it, and then I see a message advertising cakewalk.com, and then the window closes. I tried using the compatability mode tool to run the program install using Windows XPService Pack 2 and the same thing occurs.

I am planning to upgrade to X1 eventually, but I don't want to be forced into it, and now I'm wondering if I'll even be able to access my recordings using the newer program.

Can anyone help me?

sonar 4 was out long before windows 7.  I'm surprised if it won't even install, but I can't say that it's going to.

is this a 64bit win7?  make sure you try to install as Administrator - even if you have Admin priviliges on the system, tell the installer to run as Admin.

another thing to try - and I'm sure there are folks here who will jump in and disagree with me, is to disable UAC.  UAC was introduced with Vista and was horrible on Vista and is better on win7, but personally I don't like it at all and I have mine disabled.  I'm the only one on my computer and I don't need windows helping me that much with installing and downloading.

here's more info on it and how to disable it:

you can always turn it back on later if you want.

There's a menu somewhere that gives you the choice of installing software under XP or Vista. Sorry I don't have a W7 computer nearby. But it was either a right click option or in control panel. Some software will just not work, It might instal and open but will crash. Wave Lab 5 is one example I tried and failed. For the money you should look into some new software, The basic versions are not that expensive. Even if you get it to run it might be unstable.
