Installing sonar 5 on windows 7

Hey guys and gals,

I've been trying to install sonar 5 on my newish lap top and have run into problems getting the driver set before I go ahead with the install. I have had it installed on my desk top previously.

I think the newer version of windows I'm running does not marry up with the instructions in the manual.

ie once I get to the control panel I can't find the 'performance & maintenance' section it asks for to make changes to the 'driver signing option'.
If I install without making those changes at the begining I can't arm tracks to record.
Sorry if this is a daft question...

Your help is appreciated

Andrew

    Welcome to the forum.
I'm glad you got it working.
If it's clipping on playback (in the red) turn the output volume down.

If it's actually clipping, turn your levels down as Greg suggested.
If it sounds like you are listening through a helicopter blade, that's not clipping.
It is your built-in sound card making a feeble attempt to handle full duplex sound with woefully inadequate drivers.
If you are getting sound with Sonar set to the default WDM driver mode, increasing the latency may help.
You can also change the Driver Mode to MME, which should be smoother, at the expense of higher latency.
ASIO4All is a somewhat better sollution, and can help in many cases.
Your best sollution will be an external USB interface.
