HELP!! Soundforge issues in 8.5 producer
Hi All: hopefully this will be an easy question: when in Sonar 8.5, and I edit a waveform in Soundforge 10 (which is a plug-in in the "tools" tab), everything is fine--editing is fine--but when i go to save it, the computer locks and i have to hard start----cntrl-alt-del doesn't work-- Thanks to anybody who's got a sol'n

I've had nothing but trouble for years trying to use Sound Forge as an "online editor" via the Sonar Menu - so I just stopped trying. I'll only edit files "offline" outside of Sonar - it's more time-consuming and a bit annoying, but it never causes the problems I've had in "online" mode. In general, I'll do a bunch of tracking or a few tracks via a softsynth and then go "offline" to Sound Forge and normalize them, edit/tweak away, then go back into Sonar with the tracks in the condition I want them in. It can also mean a savings in disk space - if you do a "normalize" within Sonar it makes a new copy of the track, thus doubling the disk space used [with no real benefit in the long run]. By doing these things "offline" my archived projects are smaller too. This is the way I've been doing it for years after a nasty glitch between the programs cost me a few hours work - never again. YMMV BTW: It IS a shame that Sonar has yet to include REAL and robust wave editing within the program. It has some rudimentary features, but still lags years behind even free tools for wave editing IMHO.

Thanks alot, I appreciate it--I kinda had the same workaround, which i didn't want to have to do I'm glad i'm not the only one w/issues--you'd think if SONAR was going to include some 3rd party SW internally, they'd get the bugs out R

Just so you know, I've never had issues with using Wave Lab 4& 5 Via tools. Now I'm on Window 7 I will have to upgrade to Wave lab 7 and I hope it will work just as smoothly. I was looking at the different optional editing software and Soundforge was one of my choices,, so thanks for the heads up as I will skip it.

For basic wave editing, you can use just about any editor that a) accepts a filename as a command line option and b) can work with 32-bit files. The free editors Audacity and Wavosaur both qualify. Of course, neither of these are nearly as sophisticated as Sound Forge, but may be adequate depending on your editing needs. EDIT: I'll have to take that previous statement back. I just tried Audacity to verify I wasn't giving bad advice, and it did not work well. Wavosaur did OK, though.

Yes. Yes. It's not a great one, though. Get the free Voxengo SPAN, which is much more useful.

Sorry to be responding to this message so late, but I have the same issue with SoundForge 10. Soundforge 8 works just fine. I am running my system, and Sonar 8.5 at 32 bit.

I just looked up Sound forge 10 and it's not totally clear if it is 64 bit only but it seems the plug ins that come with it are 64 bit. Does not mention requiring a 64 bit OS but Sonar might be finicky about the way the tool option works.
