Hello there ladies and gentlemen.....

... are you ready to rock?

When I was in high school I was lucky enough to go with my best friend to see this great band before they became famous.  They played in the old Rialto theater in downtown Peoria, IL.  I'd been to that theater countless times, but this was the first time I realized it had an actual stage.  Either way, a fairly small venue.

Anyway, the band was amazing high energy.  One of the best rock shows I've ever seen.

While the lead guitarist played he'd occassionaly put a pick between his pointer and index finger, and then do a backhanded flip that would shoot the pick into the audience like a tiny frisbee.  My friend managed to get one, and since I played guitar and he didn't, he gave it to me.

I just stumbled across it recently and thought some of you might enjoy seeing it.  I'm showing both side 1 and side A (little Cheap Trick humor there):

Happy Memorial Day to those in the States (and happy Monday to everyone else).

Wow, didn't know he used such a thick pick!  Cool.

That's an awesome song. My favorite version is the one JG Thurwell did on the live Boil album. The original still kicks tookus too though.

Ah, the good old days. Thanks Beepster. (I saw Cheap Trick again a few years ago. Rick had gained weight and Bun E. was out for back surgery. It was fun, but never the same.)

Had the good fortune to open up for them at the Arizona State Fair back in 1988 I think. We were first on the bill with Eddie Money as the middle act. We were sitting in a room waiting to go on, and I was hanging out in the doorway hoping to see Eddie or one of the guys from Cheap Trick, and I see Rick walking with the stage manager and he says "Who's the soundcheck tonite?". Stage manager says "Hell if I know, some locals I think". We were.

We stayed in the wings after our set and watched Eddie and then Cheap Trick. They were both at the top of their game back then. Never did get to meet them.

    Randy - That's so cool!

If it's any comfort, about a year after I saw them, Cheap Trick had started to gain some fame and were opening for Foreigner.  I didn't got to that concert when it came to Peoria, but I heard that after the Cheap Trick "warm up" act, people were so bored with Foreigner that they left in the middle of their performance.

Their "Live At Budokan" album was a very memorable one for me.
