A bit of an upgrade...

just beginning a upgrade project on my rack mount home studio computer currently running XP32 bit with a Q6600 OC CPU. I went to Fry's today and bought a new Seagate 750 gb Momentus Hybrid Drive that I want to use to replace the current primary drive. I picked up a OEM. Windows 7 Pro 64 to install on the new drive. I have another 500gb secondary drive already installed that is for Audio/Samples. Since it has over 250gb available, I planned to clone the original primary HD to it for a backup. I also have a 500gb USB HD that I can use to clone the original as well. I basically wanted to do a clean install of Windows 7 64 on my new HDD and then use it as the primary. I bought a copy of Norton Ghost to use but it actually looks like Seagate has a free APP (acronis) that will work just fine.
The reason I need to upgrade to Windows 7 64 is memory. Currently I am limited to 4 gb of memory. This has always been enough until I started using more samples. I plan to upgrade the CPU and MB in the next couple of months to the Intel 3770K and run 16 gb of ddr3 1600. For now, I just wanted to upgrade the HD and do a new install of Win 7 64.....

This will work just great Steve. I upgraded my Q6600 to Win 7 64-bit last year and then took the memory up to 8GB. It takes everything Sonar X1 project that I can throw at it and I have no plans to upgrade in the foreseeable future.

Hmm, what a long frustrating day. I never was able to get the OS to recognize the new primary HD. Win 7 kept asking me for the drivers but the Seagate website says that the drivers are in Win already... I finally gave up and reinstalled the original HD. This worked and Win7 64 Pro installed without too much fanfare.

I installed 8 gb of new memory and it is working. I was concerned about my graphics card  as it is not technically for 64 bit. (Radeon X1550). It seems to be working just fine however.

    Problems:

I made a back up copy of my primary drive onto a USB Western Digital (My Book) using Ghost software.  It looks like it's all there but it's not.
I was able to restore X1 but was forced to download X1c, X1d, Rapture, D Pro and all the V700 stuff. I can see these files on the back up drive but when I try to "recover " them Ghost says "INVALID DATA".  Crap.  I had to reinstall my UAD software via download for the same reason. My UAD2 Quad is working just fine.

Missing from Cake.  All  the Native Instrument Kontact files with Steve Slate Drums and OW drums.  Oh I can see it, but the files won't recover.
I looked thru all of my authorizations on CW and can't find these. Any ideas guys?

It looks like I will have to download all of my Toontrak stuff again.... the same reason. So tonite will be download of Superior Drummer, and EZ keys.

Ah ha!  The Kontact player was missing.  I downloaded a new NI Kontact 5 player but realized that the Slate and OW drums don't need it if opened in Session Drummer.   Spent several hours last night downloading and reinstalling missing programs.  Updated all of my drivers and it seems to be running very smooth. I have not yet optimized Win7 for audio but will do that tonight. Still missing a few odds and ends but will figure it all out over the next few days.
