Just curious...Sonar X1 and Maschine

Long story short, I recently bought Maschine for some reason, perhaps it just looked like something that would work well in my arsenal as I expand my way of songwriting. Let me preface this by saying I've been a Sonar user for a long azz time and don't consider myself a rookie with it. That said, I'm having a hellish time setting up the Maschine plug in with the correct midi implementation. I also use Studio One V2 and it just works well with most things I throw at it. Sonar is still my DAW of choice but S1 has me inching closer and closer and I feel like I'm cheating on her. Lol. Anyone having luck with a Maschine/Sonar X1 combo? Cheers.

It works as both a drum controller and a sound source.  You've got to kind of wrap your head around how to use it as a sound source in Sonar (there are several options) but once you do it's great.  Killer sounds.

Thanks Pal. I kinda figured that. :-) The midi connections were so easy to implement in S1, just wondering what I'm not doing in Sonar to make it happen. I try to use it as a sound source and record into Sonar, as well as use the internal sequencer as a plug in with a Sonar trigger to no avail. It's killing me. I've got the videos but they mostly use Ableton as a demo.

The Maschine (I've got the Mikro) needs to be programmed internally but you can then build your tracks inside Maschine using the Scene page and then sync that to Sonar...or....you can find or create the loops you want to use inside Maschine and simply drag and drop their audio from Maschine onto a Sonar track and build your song that way.  You can also (I think) trigger different loops in Maschine using midi notes from Sonar.  I wish the Maschine software also had the option to let Sonar be in total control like, say, my Geist does.  That way I could just build my Maschine parts totally inside Sonar.  But NI has provided many ways to accomplish the same goal.

I'm hoping with the next iteration of the software, they address the DAW side a little better. I'm in no mood for a steep learning curve. Told my Sweetwater rep I was thinking of returning it. You have Mikro, so I guess your a software guy? Are you using it as a controller as well?

Yup...it works great as a drum controller for all my drum packages:  EZDrummer, Superior2, BFD, GEIST, Addictive, Steven Slate and NI and such.  And, again, the internal sounds of Maschine are really incredible.  Plus with the latest Komplete all NI sounds are now available to be used in Maschine.  Tres Cool.

I use Sonar with Maschine. I make my beats inside Maschine, then drag and drop them into Sonar. Easy as pie. Now, what I don't do is use Maschine to control anything else but the Maschine software. I don't need it to do much else than that. However, I think onces you have it set up the way you want it, you'll like it. But, another option is Geist and an Mpd32. I've heard Geist works really well in Sonar. I know Guru did. I still use that from time to time.

did you set up the toontrack mappings yourself?
Because I think that would be the bomb to have Machine control EZ and SD which I use ALLL THE FRIKKIN  TIME!

    Was it hard to do?

Thanks for the conversation and suggestions. I've decided to keep it. I'm actually settling in to it now. Still won't work right with Sonar as far as midi, but works well with S1. I prefer to use the DAW sequencer and I've found a way to do it nicely. As far as using it as a controller, I'll have to grow into that one.
