Do any of you guys use the Boss GT-10 guitar processor with X1?

Hello again. Hope you are all having a great day. Do any of you guys use the Boss GT-10 to record your guitar parts with? I've wanted one for a while (or at least one of its less pricey little brothers) but I'm not sure it'd be worth the money seeing as I have Guitar Rig LE and will be updating to GR5. I don't really want to use the GR pedal board though. It seems overpriced and probably not as good as BOSS stuff (I love BOSS pedals and have been using them non stop for almost twenty years). I'm also wondering if maybe I could control Guitar Rig parameters with the GT series pedal boards. I'd be using either GR or the BOSS (or a mix of both) with X1 Producer Expanded so I'd have all the little X1 goodies to tweak my sound as well. Any thoughts?

It's really just a matter of preference.  I have an old Boss FX unit that I truly adore, and I use it when I want its sound.  I also use a PODXT Live, Yamaha Magic Stomp (not a bad box,) GR, PodFarm, Amplitube, and a Marshall JCM 800 with an SM 57 in front of it.

I use whichever one gives me what I am looking for. I guess I'm saying you buy what you want - they are all just Crayons in a big box!

@Stone House Studios... gah, the forum ate my post. Anyway, sadly I'm in the position I'm gonna have to rely mostly on modeling and internal effects. I don't have the money, room, mics nor the ability to physical move big rigs around anymore. If I had it my way there'd be Hi-Watt, 5150 and Rectifier stacks lining my walls and some various combos kicking around too but that just ain't gonna happen. I'm actually REALLY impressed with the strides made in the guitar effect/amp simulator world since I last played around with this stuff so I'm kind of excited at what I can do. Right now I'm looking to be able to plug straight into my interface or have something smallish like the GT-10 in between. I may mess around routing stuff out to a real amp as well but that's an experiment for the future. So I've been poking around the net a bit since I posted this and I'm thinking this would potentially be able to control GR 5. It has MIDI options so that's a good sign. I was just checking to see if anyone was using this unit and what they thought of the results. Cheers.

hmm... I just remembered the Pro Channel phase shifting section from the Anderton vids. It'd be cool if I could assign even just the expression pedal to Pro Channel parameters. I could make quality custom phase shifters and wahs and all sorts of wacky stuff. hmm...

I use a GT-6 sometimes depending on what I'm after. It works great and with some tweaking there are really great sounds to be had from it.

TBH I have to revert to notes in old projects sometimes to work out which guitars are mic'd (I usually use either a JCM-600 into a 4x10 or a Session Rockette 30) and which are from the BOSS.

It's way in front of most guitar amp sim software IMHO. Easy to gig with as well. Only draw back is it doesn't open with the project but you can set up sysex data to be sent to it and/or call patches back via MIDI.

@beepster: i think you can't go wrong with one of the items already mentioned. I run a Boss GT-8 for several years now; built like a tank (it survived touring round the world), programmed quickly and easy to record with sonar (or whatever you like); as FBB says : it's got a rather good simulation of sounds and you can customize your own crazy guitar effects and store them, change them rather fast and you never have to think about software crash (that's why i hestitae to use guitar rig live ;-). The GT-10 might even better in easy using, don't know. Cheers Michael

@FBB... heheh. You wacky kids. Interesting rendition. The beat was bending my brain. I should take a closer look at Soundcloud for sharing tunes on. Probably a lot easier than messing around with youtube.
Anyway... yeah, I'm definitely on the hunt for realistic modeling stuff. I've been wanting a GT series board for a while but was checking out the GT-10 and it just seems to be a step beyond. Still not sure if I can control parameters with X1 on it. I'm a lot more skilled with an expression pedal than a toggle or scroll wheel as I'm a guitarist, not a keyboard player. If not I'm sure I could find another solution for that.

Another modeling device I'm looking at very intently is the Yamaha THR10. It's only $200 and if the vids and reviews are accurate the thing just kills. Also having something I can push to the max without shaking the walls and can move around easily is a bonus. Check it out...

But I definitely think the GT-10 is gonna go on the wishlist for the future. $500 is a lot of money but I'm sure I'd get much use out of it.

@Asseli... Yeah, BOSS stuff is almost indestructible. I put my pedals through HELL in my live days. Beer dumped all over them, crazy pitting loonatics stomping and kicking them, dropped (or thrown) and the only time I've ever had to replace them was when they got stolen. I currently have a Keeley modded Metal Zone and it's great. I don't think they make them anymore so I lucked out. I'd love to find a modded Blues Driver as well. Their TU-2 tuner was a godsend for my onstage shenanigans and I recommend it to every one of my students, bandmates and friends (they sometimes balk at the price but the ones who actually buy one love it). Love the BOSS.

If you wanna check out some of the more basic stuff the GT-10 does I found this vid to be helpful. Very cool...

I can tell you that the GR Rig Kontrol makes playing through GR5 a heck of a lot easier since it is configured for the software.  The drag and drop assignment of stomp buttons and the pedal controller makes setting up a configuration in GR a 10-second exercise.  It is a midi controller though, no built in effects processing.  However it does have a built in audio interface for connecting to Sonar or any DAW.  The sound quality is quite good.  It is built like a tank.  More than a few times I have wished I remembered to wear shoes when walking around it.

I bought mine at a steep discount brand new from a retailer on Ebay for less than $250.  Look around, they are out there.

You may want to try Waves Guit3, I use it a lot, that and NI guitar rig4.  You can download a free trial on waves website at http://www.wavesgtr.com/html/product_gtr3.html  go to download tab.  I also recommend Waves Guitar Solo which you can also try out for free.  Really worth a look.  You can

You may want to pick up a GT-8. I have one and was wanting the GT-10 but on the GT Central forums a lot of guys who got the GT-10 went back to the GT-8. Not sure why but I've been able to get a lot of great sounds out of my GT-8.

Of course the GT-100 has been out for a few months now too.  It features reamping over USB for those who might find that useful.

Since GT10 can be configured to transmit midi messages I think you should easily be able to do what you want.  I use mine all the time in sonar.  The GT10 is a very deep machine that is as good as you want to make it.  There is a great software package you download that lets you design your own sounds. There is a good group of folks who have designed patches that they have uploaded. I am not a big fan of the factory patches. I have revalver and GR3 and GR4. I far prefer using my GT 10.

Seriously, the best sounds I get are using the GT10 running into my Egnator Tweaker and miking this. I suggest you download the manual and take a look at it.  It is very versatile.

Right on, guys. It's good to hear such positive things about the GT series. Just wasn't sure it was up to snuff by today's standards. It's also nice to know the GR footswitch isn't a plastic POS because if I can't find another solution it'd be nice to have a proper MIDI expression pedal. I think first up I should look at getting the Yamaha amp I linked though for a bunch of reasons... some of which don't even have to do with recording. Wish I could try one out first.

I have a Digitech RP 500, which I injeçt onto an audio track. The signal is "dry" always, i have some custom sounds I like, I add reerb or delay once i'm happy with the track.

If i had a GAS attack, i would look seriously at this puppy:
