midi keyboard randomly losing connection
new problem, using a M-audio Radium 61 keyboard with Sonar, it randomly "disconnects" and I lose my midi to soft synths, have to either go to software and disconnect and reconnect, or actually unplug it and replug it. probably not a sonar problem, but would love any ideas or help thanks

I have a similar problem with an M-Audio Oxygen 61 keyboard. I'm pretty sure it's the M-Audio drivers not playing nice somehow. It's a major pain in the derrière but I've chosen to simply deal with it so far. Would love to find a fix.

HeatherHaze I have a similar problem with an M-Audio Oxygen 61 keyboard. I'm pretty sure it's the M-Audio drivers not playing nice somehow. It's a major pain in the derrière but I've chosen to simply deal with it so far. Would love to find a fix. I am on my second Oxygen 61 (this one is 3rd gen, the first one which I wore out was 1G) and I have never had this problem. Drivers have been fine. The only "issue" I have ever had is on a rough stop (normally due to a flaky plugin), I have to wait for the MIDI display to disappear in the toolbar before I can stop bitbridge and SONARPDR.exe from task manager, which I believe is common for M-Audio Midi devices. I checked my Power settings in Control Panel and am using "High Performance" which prevents the USB port from ever hibernating. The only other suggestion that might be worth a try is to use a powered USB hub (with an AC adapter) as sometimes especially if you have a lot of USB devices the output power on a USB port maybe insufficient to properly power the device.

stratoj power options in control panel? did not see any options for usb I have Vista so may not be representative - but - Vista has 3 assigned power plans - Preferred, Power Saver, and High Performance. I would choose High Performance, then you can tweak individual settings by choosing "Change Plan Settings" and then "Change Advanced Power Settings" and the "USB Settings" -

Very frequent problem for me with M-Audio and Akai USB keyboards, and with external synths plugged into a MIDI interface. USB is always on. Here is why I think it is Sonar: When I run instruments in stand-alone (e.g., Vienna, Synthogy Ivory 2, RealGuitar), I never have this problem.

You have to go to the device manager, If I remember correclty, to tuern your USB hubs to always on. Your power options in your control panel do not effect your USB hubs IIRC Cj

Do you have your power options for your usb hum to always on (if your using the usb for the midi connectiion) Good tip, I forgot to check that. I already have the Windows power set to "high performance" but maybe the USB drivers don't know that? I don't know, I'll give it a try. I actually have two Oxygens, one's an older Oxygen 8 and I know the drivers don't play very nice together. I hadn't gotten around to dealing with it yet since technically everything works (with some encouraging). It's actually the 61 that seems to flake out while the older one has been pretty solid. Meh.

My M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 does this randomly on any day with a "y" in it. RPITA.

I have lots of open MIDI ports via my MIDISport 8x8 which I'd really prefer using (if only to cut down on USB driver headaches) but it's so convenient powering my keyboards via USB. Plus, I can't find the power transformers for either one of them. Bleh. Interestingly, I just added a Korg nanoPAD2 to my gear. It was a royal PITA to set up, also. What nobody tells you is that the nano controllers won't work if there are more than 10 MIDI drivers in your system (whether they're being used or not). Luckily Korg has a utility that lets you uninstall those extra MIDI drivers, and I found multiple instances of all my M-Audio drivers to remove. Things have worked okay since then, including the nanoPAD2. Might be a trick that works for the M-Audio stuff too, I don't know. We'll see. I also stumbled across a thread that mentioned some "M-Audio USB Fix" program, but I could find no specifics on what it was, what it did or where it could be found. Anybody heard of that?

I'm 3yrs late on this discussion but I have never had a problem with my axiom. But I have drums that lose connection. I have to turn off back on and it will happen again in in 5min..would it possibly be the case my Yamaha drums consum more power? Mind u I have no powere supply to my m audio but I do with my drums. Does this matter?
