Need help with recording vocals!!

Hi All

I am a newbie here!  I have a problem!  I've set up my audio card etc and everything works fine - apart from recording audio!  I can record midi etc from my keyboard through soft synths but when I come to record a vocal, I can hear my vocal fine through my mixer & headphones but no signal is getting through to Sonar!  This is driving me nutty!  My setup is:

Intel Core i7 3770 3.4ghz
16gb Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz
Asus Z77 Motherboard
Windows 7
Sonar X1D Producer Expanded
EMU 0404 PCIe (yes I know it's old but it works (or did work) fine!
Soundcraft Compact 4 Mixer
Behringer Tube Composer
Korg Triton Pro-x Keyboard
Behringer Mic

I have my keyboard and mic going straight into my Compact 4.  The Tube Composer (compressor/limiter) is in the insert channel - same channel as the mic.  All inputs/outputs to the EMU card are set up correctly.

The Tube Composer is picking up a signal from the mic, as is my mixer and the sound is coming through the headphones but nothing's getting through to sonar!

Can anyone help me before my head explodes? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease!!!!!

Thanks

Ian

My first suggestion would be to make sure
you have the appropriate input selected on
the Audio track that you are recording.

Then "Arm" the track for recording and you should see
    the signal in the meter...

I'd need more info on the issue if that doesn't solve the problem...

    Hi
Right, I know it's definitely something to do with my EMU 0404.  I have messed around with Patchmix software and now I can get audio into sonar but I am getting an echo.  In patchmix I have an input strip for the PCI card in L/R and I have an insert send to an ASIO 1/2 strip.  So Sonar isn't my problem here is it?!!!?!  Can anyone still help?  If I mute the ASIO 1/2 strip, the vocal 'echo' disappears but the signal doesnt get into sonar.

You have to use the asio driver to get the sound into Sonar..

Under "Edit" "Preferences" and then Audio.....set up the Asio driver there....

On the track inspector, at the bottom, select the INPUT source and OUTPUT source..

I don't think you need to use the PatchMix...I used and Emu 1212 when I was a Cubase user
and didn't have to us PatchMix then...but that was quite a few years ago...

I'm using the ASIO drivers and the input source is set to Stereo ASIO and the output is set to Master.  The 'echo' I'm getting is when I sing or talk into the mic, it's almost like a really old tape echo!  I think the signal is going through twice but I don't know how to fix this?!

Okay - I've no idea how I've fixed it but I changed the output of the vocal from master to ASIO 31 and now the vocals record and there's no more echo!  Thank you for your help - it's much appreciated!!!

I quit using ASIO drivers as they tend to hate my UA-EX25 for some reason. I haven't quite figured out why, I'll look into it a bit more. I use the drivers that came with my UA-EX25, but because it is a Cakewalk product (version released when Cakewalk took over Edirol) it works spiffy well in SONAR.
