Sound doesn't register in SHS 6

I just got a new computer with Windows 7, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but when I try to record it will recognize my USB mixer, and the input I'm using, but no sound registers when you arm the track. I'm using the TASCAM US-800 interface, and all the drivers are up to date on it and Cakewalk. My computer is and HP with AMD processor, quad-core 2.2 GhZ and 8 GB of rams. And it has a good audio card in it already. I've tried WDM, ASIO, MME, tried different latency levels, uninstalling/re-installing, tried changing I/O buffer size. I've tried everything I've done before to fix audio problems, but nothing seems to work, and I've been at it for about 2 days, so if it's something stupidly easy I'm gonna punch myself.

    Welcome to the forum.
What is listed as the input of your audio track?

Go to Options-Audio-Driver and make sure the TASCAM is selected as the Input and Output. Deselect the onboard soundcard drivers because it will not be as good as the US-800.  Go to Options-Audio-Advanced and set the driver mode to ASIO. You should not be using MME mode. WDM is ok, but not as good as ASIO which should work with the TASCAM.

When you arm the track to record, make sure the input is set to the US-800.

@ Greg- The Right US-800 1/2 input is selected and the output is the US-800 as well

@ Dave- I tried what you said, and still nothing registers in Cakewalk. I tried both the ASIO and WDM

If you're using 64-bit Windows 7 then you must have the 64 bit Windows driver for the US-800 or it won't work.

If you look in Windows Device Manager, is the US-800 listed under Sound devices? If Windows doesn't see it, neither will Sonar.

What are you trying to record (microphone, guitar, keyboard...)? Is the mixer separate from the US-800 and is it also listed in Sonar? Keep in mind that in ASIO mode you can only have one sound device active at a time so if the mixer is also a soundcard, then you can't use the US-800 at the same time unless you switch to WDM mode. If you're using a USB microphone, that also is considered a sound device. Need more information about what you're trying to do.

I suggest you disconnect the mixer for now and get the US-800 working first. Then try to add the mixer back in.

Sorry I misspoke, there is no mixer, it is just the US-800. I am trying to record guitar and vocals. There is no USB mic, I have a webcam it tried to use but I disabled it. And yes all drivers for everything is Windows 7. The US-800 is the only drivers that are enabled in Sonar. My mixer is seen in Devices, and also in Sonar. I have checked those a few times now. I want to use it as WDM because eventually I will be recording an entire band so I need to record more than one input at a time.

@ Greg- The Right US-800 1/2 input is selected and the output is the US-800 as well

So, you have 1 microphone plugged into the TASCAM, the input levels are up on the TASCAM, but is the routing right? Is there a switch or button on the interface to send the audio to SONAR, or maybe a mixer window for the TASCAM in the computer that has to be set to record sound in SONAR?
Maybe you need to pan the channel you have the mic plugged into to the right?

Edit: With this TASCAM, you should be able to record 8 inputs in ASIO mode.

ASIO mode is better. You can record more than one input, just not from more than one soundcard. Since you only have the US-800, that should be fine.

Can you hear the microphone or guitar through headphones plugged into the US-800?

Do you have the USB cable plugged directly into the computer or into a USB hub? Should be directly into the computer.

In the US-800 mixer utility, you should have have the Output tab set to the Digital Output. Make sure none of the channels are muted. Also check the Windows 7 mixer to make sure the US-800 is not turned down or muted.

Can you play a music from Windows Media Player through the US-800?

Make sure  you've read the US-800 manual carefully. There's important info in there. This should not be that difficult.

Well thank you guys for your help, I feel kind of dumb now though haha. I checked all the things you guys said and everything, but it ended up being my computer. It has 2 USB 3.0 ports in the front, and after reading about my computer, there are also two 3.0 ports in the back, as well as two 2.0 ports, and the TASCAM doesn't respond to the USB 3.0 buses apparently. So I apologize for making this essentially a waste of time haha.
