tempo not imported

Hello All,

When I import a midi file into a project it doesn't seem to import the tempo and rits accel.  etc.  Is there a dialogue box somewhere to tell Sonar what to import?

midi files dont genarly hold carry that info.
things like groove clips and rex files do.

there may be a way to import that info but as i said generaly speaking midi files dont because they are so flexable they can be played at almost any tempo.

maybe someone else will chime in with a way you can.
    figured a bump might help

I certainly hope there is a way.  It's a midi file from sibelius and has rits and accel and formattas that all need to play back properly.

Apparently if you import a midi file you may loose the data but if you open the file in Sonar you won't.  Just tried it and it works (google search helped here).   Seems an odd flaw to have in a program of this caliber.

Not really! When you import a MIDI file the project already has a tempo. When you simply open a MIDI file Sonar reads the tempo from the file and sets the project to it. And yes tempo is part of a Standard MIDI files.

Thanks John,  that makes a lot more sense than what I read on line.

Been that way forever. gotta "open" if you want all the goodies.
I think "import" was designed more for bringing in a signal track of MIDI data to an exsiting project. Like drum loops.  That way the new imported track played in time with the rest.

A feature of SONAR is that it can and does open MIDI files natively.

You don't have to import them. Just right click on a MIDI file name and select Open With-> SONAR
    or
associate .mid files to always open with SONAR then just double click as per any other file.

That's my default file setting as its more likely that I want SONAR to open a MIDI file for me than any other program.
