First rap, mix suggestions please

Hey guys, I wrote this for a scoring gig, but since it isnt paying anything up front all the productions costs are on me. I will be mixing it due to lack of funds...ouch

Any thoughts or suggestions welcome...especially on the mix.

This is for ending credits on the film, from the perspective of a working stand up comedian..

Lots of X3ta 2 and Rapture.  Lots of effects chains, side chain gating...automated effects...etc etc.  It was fun playing with all the synth and effect buttons I dont usually bother with.  Strings are Hollywood Strings from EW.

Really Nice. I want to kick this over to my hifi tomorrow when I can turn the volume up, but so far it sounds pretty good.

You have a Limp Bizkit/Linkin Park sound going on that is quite enjoyable, but your client may find a bit derivative and dated. Hard to say. Still, a great tune.

    Cheers
    Shad

Thanks for the listen and feedback Shad.  I had instruction for a specific 'feel' he said this fit when I played it for him.  I'm still in the production process with another singer/rapper coming in to replace the second verse.  But I want to get it mixed so I can just plug in the new vocals when they are recorded

    Thanks again

Ah, excellent. That would have been the only hurdle IMO. You nailed it then. Well done. I really look forward to the progress.

Mike: great job on this! In my opinion, this is a perfect mix that is ready for mastering by the right person. You gave a well-balanced mix that has all the right stuff to where an ME can really tweak it to where it needs to be.

For example, I think it could have more low end in it done the right way. This is where an ME can shine and bring things to the next level. I'd kill for mixes like this that would allow me the control to really take them to the next level. So as far as balanced goes, you absolutely nailed it brother. But we definitely could use some nice sub lows pumping done the right way and a few other things to polish this up. But as is, I'd not touch a thing. Killer job bro!

    Danny-
Thank you for the feedback and compliment.  I have had a difficult time trying to add in the right amount of sub bass to the mix.  without overdoing it.

One of your- many- helpful posts on this forum, suggested to leave room for the mastering engineer, not only in volume level but also in EQ.  I have been trying to mix by that rule.  Thanks again for all the help you offer in the forum

Mix sounds balanced here... I can't really offer any mastering advice on this, as I have no frame of reference, but I did want you to know I listened... good luck on getting paid, and I hope your time & effort leads to more gigs...

You did a very good job on this tune on all levels.  As Danny said, you could make this "club" ready by careful mastering of the subs, but it stands on its own as is.

    All the best,

That's pretty funny Mike :-D I did not expect this from you. Something about that low distorted Wow wow bass is objectionable to me, but I can't be any more specific than that.

Notnat - Thank you for the listen.  I hope I recoup some money also :) .  There is no shortage of gigs for me at the moment, but a definate shortage of gigs that pay more than the production cost!

Lynn - Thank you for the listen and compliment.  I am pretty much trembling in fear at the thought of messing with my sub bass anymore than I have ...not because I don't think it can sound good...but because I'm pretty sure I would ruin it if I tried lol

Robb..erm The Band - Thanks for the listen.  I stole the Wobble Bass idea from a Salina Gomez song "I love you like a love song baby"  I figure if I add some current "Pop" elements to the tune, it may make my feable attempt at a rap/pop song more 'legit'.

Rap needs to be louder, and the beatz could use some more thickness and presence, but other than that, pretty awesome.
