What are some sites that cover new music technology like X1?

Sites that cover computer music recording, the software, hardware, songwriting. etc. Scott Garrigus has his own site that covers X1, but are there more sites?

I'm sure you already know of them but SoundOnSound and Gearslutz are pretty awesome sites. For computer stuff BleepingComputer and Tom's Hardware are good ones and NeweggTV is pretty cool as far as what's current in the PC world. All easily googable. Cheers.

    lol

musicradar is another site.  I find it is somewhat easier to find sites that cater to specific genres of music production

the gear sites have been covered so..... you did ask about songwriting as well....

depending on your genre.... there are sites devoted to specific genre's. I'm aware of the ones in my writing styles.

    Christian songwriting org>>>  http://www.christiansongwriting.org/

    Nashville Songwriters >>>>  http://www.nashvillesongwriters.com/

    Taxi >>>>   www.taxi.com

I don't get to the CSO much these days.....so I'm not up to speed as to what they offer. Last time I was there it was pretty slow in the forums.

Nashville songwriters has a huge video library and a forum site BUT... it is mostly restricted to members only. Still have a look around the site. THere may be some useful info for you.

Taxi.... probably has the most to offer someone who is not a member. The forum is free and there are a number of pages that you may find helpful. The forums have folks there that are focused on the writing aspect of the music... like here we are focused for the most part on the technical process of recording and mastering..... there, they focus on song structure, melody, lyrics and how to improve.  They are also pretty willing to help anyone who comes there seeking songwriting advice and critiques on songs. They have no clue, nor do they care if you are a member.  As a non-member, you don't have a taxi page and you can not take advantage of the opportunities listings.

You can still see the listings and write music to "fit" the listing and post it in the forum to get opinions and feedback. That... is a good way to learn the craft of writing.

TapeOp is a great resource.  very technical at times but lots of real world info from very experienced sources.  It does lean very heavily towards hardware though.

Yeah... the guy that recommended it was crazy into electrical engineering stuff. I have a feeling that site/mag will be a little over my head at the moment. Would love to take some EE courses at some point though.

tape op's a great place to go if you want to be told you're doing it all wrong. If you're doing it inside a computer, you're doing it all wrong!

If you want some thought-provoking articles on record production and the nature of sound, you'll want to spend some time at Dave Moulton's site.

And don't forget the podcasts! If you have a commute to work, they're much better than talk radio. For real-world advice, the best of these is The Home Recording Show. Sound on Sound has a decent podcast, good content even though it's two guys reading a script in a monotone. Electronic Musician has one too, nearly as dry as SoS, but occasionally good content, mostly new product info. Dave Chick's Inside Home Recording sometimes has good information in a more relaxed, conversational tone.

Then there's Pensado's Place, that not only shows you how to do studio stuff it also reassures us older folk that you can still be productive and entertaining even after decades of drug and alcohol abuse.

I got a subscription and realized everything i thought i knew about everything i thought i knew was wrong according to the TapeOp guys.  i do think some of the principles they go over are applicable to pc based audio, whether they agree or not.

When I was directed to TapeOp I had actually asked about proper mastering techniques and concepts. So yeah... pretty heavy stuff from a pretty heavy gear head.

check out this article from daves site

    http://www.moultonlabs.com/more/so_whats_so_good_about_digital_anyway/P1/

    its analog vs digital.

it is mind blowing,i read this a while ago and it really changed the way i think about anolog recording.yet its always been the way i felt about the forgivingness, warmth and subliminal range of it.

Careful, guys. Once you let science into the picture, it's a slippery slope! Pretty soon you'll be arguing with the pixie-dust contingent about sample rates and dither algorithms and expectation bias and the McGurk Effect.
