Midi events: Selecting one event question

Midi events: Selecting one event question

 
What is the proper way to select just 1 item out of all these midi events?  I want to select the snare event at the bottom highlighted, BUT I need the timeline to be selected measure 1-9 completely.  If I click on the "Snare" event so I can paste it, it doesn't select the complete 1-9 measures.  Thoughts?  ; )

    try holding down the CTRL key while clicking on your note,this should seperate it from the others.
