Kontakt5 hanging ... then hanging Sonar ...

I've recently installed Komplete8, and have a problem with Kontakt5.   After a little use (eg, when adding or deleting an instrument), it hangs, with a  "Not Responding" message.  When I close the program, then I get the same Not Responding message in Sonar.

Other Komplete8 programs seem to work ok.

I've no idea how to even begin to troubleshoot this issue - anybody got any ideas?

You'll probably find that the hangs occur with specific factory libraries, or specific settings within a library. Check the NI site to make sure you've got all the updates installed.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I've had the same issue and it seemed to happened mostly after deleting an instrument.  I think Bitflipper has the best advise,  make sure you have the latest versions of both the instruments and K5.   Also, I've changed the buffer size in Kontakt,  I think it is set at 60 megs and I upped it to 128megs or something.  It allows the instruments to play better and could possibly haved helped the issue you are having,  'cause it has been awhile since I've had that problem.

For what it's worth I run multiple instances of kontakt and things are working  fine(knock on wood!)

Ohh another thing,   make sure you are loading the 64 bit version of K5 if you are working in 64 bit.  I was unwittingly loading the 32 bit version and having problems.

Thanks for the suggestions.   Everything appears up-to-date.

Re the 64 bit issue - sounds a silly question but, when I choose insert-soft synth in Sonar, how do I know if its the 32 or 64 bit version I'm choosing?

On my system the drop down menue will list plug-ins>vstplug-ins.  That, for me, has all the 32 bit plug-ins.  Underneath that there is plug-ins>VSTPlug-ins 64 bit.  I was loading the 1st Kontakt 5 plugin I found,  which as you know was 32 bit...

I get all sorts of hangs with Reaktor too.  Including hanging notes.

Still not got this working.   I do insert - soft synth - vst plugins, and then there is one choice of Kontakt there.

I noticed that when I have kontakt open, or I try and delete an instrument in kontakt (which is causing the hang), I see one of the processes my pc has open is bitbridge.exe.  Is this something to do with using 32-bit plugins in a 64-bit environment? ...  very confused ...

My Sonar X1d will have (32 bits) next to the plugins that are 32 bits.  So is your Sonar up to date? As I mentioned earlier, underneath >vst plugins   there should be:
    plug-ins>VSTPlug-ins 64 bit

Make sure you instaled the 64 bit version of K5
    Re scan your plugins.
Once k5 loads, click on the gear thingy that says Options>Memory and move the slider to the right ,  increasing the "instrument preload buffer size" to something greater than 128 megs.

It sure sounds to me like you are loading the 32 bit version and then using instruments that use lots of memory and need the 64 bit version of K5

Thanks Jimbo - stupid me, all I needed to to find out the bit version of the soft synths was to check the version number of them when opened in Sonar (clicking the NI logo shows it).  They were 32 bit.   I then located the folder on my pc where the 64 bit versions were and copied them over to the relevant folder and now all seems OK, problems gone.

I don't know why though, did the 64 bit ones not go to the right folder in the first place - on all my other soft synth installations they have gone automatically to the right folder.   Anyways, now I can move on ...  :-) ... thanks for the advice.

No Problem,  glad I helped!   Soooo many people have helped me here.  I can put a 100 hours in a week on Sonar easily,  so you'd think I'd know everything about the program, yet I know so little.

Hope you have fun with K5!  It has been great for me...
