Another Can't Find Softube, Sort of
(continued from Can't Find Softube thread, message #12 http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2583862), heydan Hey All, My SofTube Sat Knob is only coming up as an audio FX option for the buss(Master, Preview, etc.) FX modules. When I installed X1Expanded following the detailed instructions, Sat Knob.dll installed (as I recall by default)to C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\Internal\Softube & C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\Internal\Softube folders. I have run the Plugin Manager VST scanner several times with no change, that is, it's not available in any audio track. The recently purchased PC4K S-Type Comp & PC4K Gate/Exp modules installed to the same folder with no problems (they show up & are available as plugins for the audio tracks. Is 1- the Sat Knob installed to the correct folder, maybe the reason it's not available as a PC module? 2- do I need to manually reinstall or move (carefully!) the Sat Knob folder to the VST Plugin folder & rescan? I always use Administrator access if that matters. Any other option I haven't thought off? Any help appreciated. Thanx, HeyDan per Mudgel "The saturation knob is only accessible via the ProChannel interface. Right click anywhere in the PC window to open up the selections". Been doing that, no success. "It is not available as an fx insert on any channel or buss". uhh... tell my computer that (1st screenshot): You notice these VST instances are on busses. I was able to access the plugin by clicking the +button at the top right of the FX module. (see 2nd screenshot below) "Did you correctly folllow the procedure when updating to X1D. There was a step in there that required the deletion of the Saturation Knob dll as it was updated with the X1D Expanded update patch". Pretty sure I did, I'm meticulous in following instructions especially in these cases, altho I am human. "BTW. Its best to start your own thread with your own question so things can get tracked properly". Sorry, did not intend to confuse or hijack thread. What I did intend was to offer a possible reason for the OPs problem by bringing attention to my problem hoping it would jog someone's memory. I should have stated it differently to reflect that intention. per Zo message #13, "if you guyz need to , i can make a video on how to use the Softube Sat knob (witch is a vst) as a vst in the FX bin ;)" Zo, is the situation shown in screenshot 2 the capability you're talking about? In all this, the problem is only in X1D Expanded 64bit & since my OS is not supported by Cake, this forum is one of the few resources available to me. 32 bit is working as advertised. Thoughts anyone? Best, HeyDan

You should really upgrade to Windows7. Its SO much better than XP and that will probably fix your problem.

One for Cakewalk tech support. I know of a registry hack that will get a couple of the ProChannel modules to show up in the fx bin. I'm wondering if you dont have your softube folder in the right place in the 64 bit version. it should be in C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\Internal\Softube version 1.3.8.0. Perhaps something didn't get done properly during the update to X1D Expanded when the softube dll had to get deleted

Heydan : yes i wanted to share the ability to use it in the fx bin witch is the oposit of what you want/need ... Look for the dll in the internal folder , cut and paste it anywhere else (place no scanned by vst scanner) ... remove the dll you have else where ... erase in the registry any reference to it on the vst ref (chek my video , you will see where to look at) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EBzPSx8150&feature=plcp (27 sec) reboot , laucnhe sonar .... then reboot , replace the dll (cuted at first on the right folder) and relauche sonar ...if it doesn't work , you have the wrong dll version maybe ...

The "Internal" folder is scanned by SONAR X1D by default. All the ProChannel dll modules reside in that folder.

NO. they are locked to ProChannel by design. There are some kludges in registry edits that will allow some to show up in the fx bin but even then they are not available in any other host. To reiterate they are VSTs and SONAR must scan them for them to show up available in ProChannel

As you can see in my first screenshot, the plugin in the 64bit instance of Sonar is bitbridged. Should that not also be a 64bit plugin for 64bit Sonar as the other internal plugs (gate/expander, etc.) I mentioned above are, or is it meant to be a 32bitbridged plugin for 64bit Sonar? Anyone? I don't have my Daw to hand so can't check. I would use windows to do a search for the softube saturation knob dll as it seems you must have other versions of the file somewhere besides the Internal folder where it should be. It should be visible in the Plugin Managers centre pane. Clicking on each of the 2 entries there will show you the path to the file in the bottom most part of the manager window. Perhaps something went wrong with you X1C to D expanded update. Sure seems a puzzle but I know my Softube Sat Knob is 64 bit. That's another clue that perhaps there's an install problem. Normally I don't answer obscure PMs that have me chasing down threads. Just caught me when I had a bit of time on my hands. Sorry I can't help more at this time.

I'm still not at my Daw so can't confirm the name of the 64 bit Sat Knob dll but it's not a given that it will have '64' in the name. I have a few plugs where the 32 and 64 bit files are named exactly the same, just installed to different folders. When you find the files check to see whether examining the file properties sheds any more light.

Have now had a chance to check DAW. I don't have X132 bit installed so can't check that side. As I'd mentioned previousy the 64 bit version of Softube's PC version of the Saturation Knob is called Saturation Knob.dll There's no mention of it being either 32 or 64 bit in the file properties. The file is 6,396 KB in size if that helps identify it.

I've been comparing the registry listings for both to see if something is amiss there ( I know, go carefully there mate!). I will report back with results, good or bad. Thanks, HeyDan
