Changing audio track tempo
As a long time Cakewalker I feel embarrassed to ask this question; I should know the answer by now! Here's the problem: I've recorded a song with 5 tracks; 2 midi (drums & K/bds) and 3 audio (vox, gtr & bass) I know realize the tempo is completely wrong for the song's style, originally 116bpm needs to be around 130. I know I can change the tempo of the Midi tracks simply by increasing the bpm and I can easily rerecord the bass and gtr (just riffs) The problem is the vocal track. It was sung by an old musical mate from London, here in France, and I can't easily get him back to redo it. So what I want to do is change the tempo of this track, obviously without changing pitch. How to do? I've studied 'help' and Scott G's book to no avail. PS I'm using Sonar Studio 8.5

Gareth So what I want to do is change the tempo of this track, obviously without changing pitch. Select the vocal clip and then use the menus as follows: Process > AudioFx > Cakewalk > Time/Pitch Stretch 2 Don't expect perfect results though.

Audiosnap is designed for this sort of thing, but it's probably more trouble than it's worth. A better way would probably be to slip-stretch the clip to where you need it to be. To do this, you move your mouse pointer to where you would slip-edit the end of the clip, but you press the ctrl-key so you get a yellow line at the end of the clip. That's the slip-stretch indicator. Then you slip the clip to the length you want.

I second using audio snap. This is what it was built for. Well one of the things. You can go from a tempo of 40 to 120 without any artifacts. Pretty cool! You can do all the track at one time by lassoing all of them or selecting all of them. Its easier than doing it one at a time. CJ

Had a look at audio snap and can't see the path to do a simple tempo change. Help!

Audio snap is one of those tools that you are going to want to read ALL the instructions. It will walk you through step by step. No point in one of us repeating text that is already well written. I find typing in the Help search box quickly takes you to the instructions. So type "Audio Snap" and read on. Or if you type "change tempo of audio"

Maybe others would disagree, but I would not use AudioSnap in this particular situation. AudioSnap is useful in cases where the audio is slightly off the beat due to inconsistent timing. But here the OP wants to adjust a whole clip by a single fixed amount. Time Stretch seems like a better option to me.

You may be right Kev, and thanks for you suggestion. But, I don't have the time stretch 2 option in my Cakewalk fx.

Sorry I didn't realise that Timestetch was not in the Studio edition. I would have thought that AudioSnap would have been less likely to be included.

Gareth I don't have the time stretch 2 option in my Cakewalk fx. Apparently the free Audacity can "Change the speed or pitch of a recording". I use Audacity a lot but I must have overlooked this feature. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/about/

The "Process > Audio > Length" in Sonar does just the same. I guess.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.
