Dropouts
Hello everyone, I recently posted a thread about VST plugin problems thatI got fixed, thanks to all the advice I recieved within that thread. Unfortunately I have encountered another problem, audio dropouts. This only occurs when plugins are added (and I mean, as soon as one channel is EQ'd and Compressed - dropouts begin). I use an i7-2600, 8GB Ram and 1.5TB 5400 RPM Hard Drive with a Mackie Onyx Blackjack 2x2. I have messed around with buffer settings on my ASIO driver, switched to WDM Driver and increased the Hard Drive buffer rates, however, dropouts still remain. This is definitely a Sonar X1 problem as I tested a mix session with Reaper and no dropouts occured what so ever. Any help would be much appreciated as this is wearing me down. Thanks

Could it be that im running Sonar 32 bit on Windows 7 64 bit? or that my hard drive is only 5400rpm?

or that my hard drive is only 5400rpm We have a potential winner here! It's recommended that you use at least 2 x 7200rpm (or faster) drives in your system - one for the OS & Progs and another one for your Projects. Add a 3rd drive if you run or are planning to run any massive sample streaming libraries. Avoid any sort of "green" HDD like the plague!

Thanks for the reply. My old system worked fine with a 5400rpm hard drive though, so i'm pretty confused. I will probably add a 2nd hard drive to my system purely for audio. However, in the mean time, this is extremely annoying.

Sonar recommends a 7200 RPM hard rive for audio only. 5400 RPM does not meet the minimum requirements. Its also recommended to have a separate program drive and audio drive. Your system as it stands now cannot handle it. Hence the Dropouts Cj

Thanks. I thought it was that, was just looking to confirm my suspicions. Do you recommend that I install a new SSD 7200 RPM hard drive or would an external 7200 RPM hard drive work? (Seagate, WD, iOMEGA) I'm looking to buy an external hard drive anyway, so this would maybe kill two birds with one stone. Are there any pros/cons of running audio from internal/external hard drives? Thanks

an external 7200 RPM drive will work. Just use the external drive for audio only. This is where you store and save your CWP and per project audio folders CJ
