Sonar X1 slow in opening projects?
Hello, I'm having this small problem with my X1 and it's getting kinda annoying. Each time I open it up and click on my projects to load, it'll take ages. The last one took roughly, 10 mins to load. This can't be right as my laptop surpassed the minimum required specs to run it. Anyway, here's my specs. Also, I just did a fresh install of both Sonar X1c and my Windows 7 Home Edition. Lastly, did a test and I didn't have a problem running it on my desktop. Windows 7 Home Intel Core i5-2450M, 2.56GHZ 6GB Ram 750GB HDD Appreciate the help!

Thanks for that swift reply. Nope, though I tried loading a blank project, same problem.

Is your laptops hard rive 5400 PRM? 7200 is stated as the minimum required speed. Do you have a 2nd hard rive for audio only? You need one for audio and one for programs Cj

Try going into msconfig, Disable/Stop all service Disable/Stop all items in Start up. Reboot and see if it comes up faster. I do this when working in X1 along with a few other tweeks and its made a world of difference so far. You will need to start things back up when finished working in X1. You might have to go in and enable a thing or two here and there but there will be self explanatory. When it is booting up, does it appear to be hanging in any one thing while coming up? Give it a shot. Cant hurt

Hello, many thanks for the suggestions, I just found out that my HDD's 5400 RPM instead of the minimum 7200. I guess that should be the problem. I'll probably get a new HDD. Also, thanks digi2ns for those tweak suggestions, made my system a lot faster. Thanks again guys.

Hello again, Thanks for that, I'll keep checking back for more information. Anyway, as I'm hunting for a good 7200 HDD, I was wondering, do I need to look out for anything else besides the 7200 RPM? Specific brands? Also, in terms of performance, will it help if I use an external 7200 RPM HDD to save my projects or shall I get the internal one instead?

the larger the cache the better, the cache.A cache is a pre-staging area. it the component that transparently stores data so that future requests for that data can be served faster.

I have a Western Digital Scorpio Black 320 GB 7200 RPM drive in my laptop... But I never had a problem even with my 5400 RPM 500 GB drive in it... My specs are less then yours and it loads without a hitch... AMD A6-3400 Quad Core 1.4 GHz...I have the 320 in 2 partitions of 160 GB Each...and use the 500 GB as an external drive....don't have any problems with load times...and I have a zillion plug ins.... If you really want fast load times...get an SSD.....that's my next move....they're coming down in price all the time... ONE THING TO NOTE...back up often with an SSD...they die without notice!!! If you want something in between ...the Seagate Hybrid Drives (Momentus XT) are a good bet...

I don't really know what's wrong besides the HDD thingy. I tried loading a blank project and it took 4 minutes to open.

I would get yourself the recommended hardware (7200 RPM drive and a 2nd hard drive for audio only) and then try opening a project. Cj
