Will 64-bit Sonar files play back on 32-bit?

Everytime we update sofware, my partner and I buy dual licenses so we can seamlessly float files back and forth. He does some of the pre-production work creating base tracks in B-I-A-B and exports them to Sonar - then sends them to me to record clients audio and mix, then back to him to master. His machine has crashed and he's thinking of building a W7 machine and updating all the programs to their 64-bit versions but the main studio (mine) is still running 32-bit. It has been rock-solid for years and I really don't like the idea of fixing what isn't broken. Will my XP machine and 32-bit Sonar Pro read his 64-bit files? And can I send him 32-bit for mastering?

It is not essential to use the 64-bit version of Sonar just because you have a 64-bit operating system. The 32-bit Sonar can be installed too. Both versions can be installed independently alongside each other.

Don't confuse 64-bit processing and 64-bit memory addressing with 64-bit data. You're exchanging data, not project files. The audio files you send one another are going to be 24- or 32-bit data, compatible with any DAW.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

As they said,Just instal the 32 bit version of Sonar. I installed 32 bit version of Sonar 7 on Windows 7 64 bit without any problems, as a matter of fact it seems to work better than it did under XP as my Tascam drivers have lower latency now. There's no problem changing the operating system, the big change is if you change to 64 bit Sonar all you plugs will have to have 64 bit versions.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. He's got his machine running and we should have a chance to try a file swap later this week. Why don't you all take the night off and have a frosty one on me?
