Out of Memory?? Help!
Hi all, If anyone can help me out here I'd greatly appreciate the advice... When I am "auditioning" sample loops in the X1 Browser for use in my current Project, I often get the message: "Out of Memory" after listening to some number of loops (.wav files). Then I can no longer play one without restarting X1. I'm not sure why this happens, and is there a setting somewhere that I can increase to adjust to a larger memory? (Which memory is being affected anyway?) Many thanks. TB Producer Expanded, Motif XF7, Komplete 7, Z3ta 2+, etc...

What are yourt pc specs, especially the ram? Maybe you need more Ram (memory) You may need to add more sticks of ram in your pc, if you do not have enough to handle what you are doing Cj

Yeah, as CJ says, we can't diagnose anything without knowing your full system specs.

Oops... I knew there was something I forgot. I'm running Win7, 32-bit, Intel i5 Core661 3.33 @ 3.33gHz, 4GB DDR3-1066 RAM (Sweetwater Creation Station, circa Jan '11).

Well you might want to enable your pc so it uses more ram. to do that, you need to insert the 3gig switch. If that doesn't work, you need to upgrade to a 64bit windows architecture, so you can use more than 4 gigs of ram

Even so, he should be able to audition a few loops without running into problems, depending on the size of the loops obviously.

Also something you may want to consider is using Game_Booster. When you're in this mode, it temporarily shuts down background processes and Windows services to maximize your system resources. Although it's targeted for "gamers", I use it regularly with X1 without any issues. I do load a lot of soft synths, and RAM is always a shortage (at least on my older sys). My next build will be a 64bit system with lots of RAM.

Hmmm... thanks for the tips so far guys. I started out with a 64-bit machine but suffered worse performance (many crashes when running Sonar) than what I'm getting now. Go figure... So under warranty, I traded back for the 32-bit machine which was way more stable. I DO tend to run a few soft synths, maybe 8 at a time in a project... I am not real familiar with the gamers' performance boosters. TB

TB, your system is definitely powerful enough to audition loops. If you had a problem with a lot of soft synths, then the 4GB of RAM (the actual usable RAM is probably 1/2 that) could be a foreseeable problem. Do you have this happening with only the loops auditioning or is it with a lot of other tracks (including a lot of fx plugins) being played while auditioning the loops? Either way, the loops that come with X1 are not big enough to cause this RAM issue. It has to be something else causing it. Regarding the Game Booster, check out the link and see all the details of how it works. It's basically a utility software that takes the resources from programs running in the background and uses them for a dedicated software you select like X1. It works very well (if you're actually short on RAM) and it's FREE until June 30th. PreviousNext

Did you clean out the "Pic Cache"-folder? There´s also a setting for it´s size in one of the Sonar .ini´s.
