V-Studio 100 "No Controls" (may return soon)

Purchased new V-Studio 100 and may send it back. ......none of the controls work with the computer.
When hitting play in computer can listen to song thru the V-studio and display window has activity.

Loaded software to 2 separate computers with the same result. V-studio is recognized, all settings I beleive are correct (ins & outs to V-Studio)

Had versions of Sonar X1 on each computer so not sure if this is the problem or not.

Computer 1:
Windows XP, 32 bit......Sonar X1 Producer

Computer 2:
Windows XP, 32 bit.......Sonar X1 Essential remnants only as it was removed a while back.
Loaded Sonar VS to this computer...followed step by step.....

Very frustrated and considering sending the unit back. Have contacted Cakewalk and hope they have an answer. If anyone has had a similar problem and managed to fix it please let me know.......Thanks

I have this problem with my set up.
I was using VS software and everything was working OK. Then I upgraded to X1 Essential and I have lost the use of the control surface. Everything else works OK. Full working order via the keyboard and mouse, but can't get any use from the control surface element.
I have not had the time to search for a solution yet!
I like X1 but need to get used to it.....and I really want my control surface back!

    All help greatly appreciated!

You have to tell Sonar it's a control surface as well as a USB i/o.  Have you tried:
edit-preferences-advanced-midi-control surfaces and checked the VS100 there?

Sonar normally remembers but may lose the settings after a crash

I use my VS100 every day and think it's great and VERY underrated.

    Good luck!

hey, i gave this a shot and it worked.  my sonar started acting up and i lose the ability to use the vstudio as a controller and it was upsetting.  glad to have it back.

it still doesn't show up in my computer, which is to say, everything that i recorded when i used it for stand alone recording is stuck in there.  i can't access it to move the files out.  i guess i'd have to buy a card reader.  i'm glad it works and all, but that's pretty stupid.
