Tip for Arming Tracks
You may know this but I just figured it out and it is saving me a lot of time and mis-clicks. Scenario: Recording multiple vocal takes or multiple vocal harmonies one by one. You want to arm a track, turn input echo on, and record. Then you want to disarm, turn echo off, and go to the next track. Holding shift while clicking the Arm icon (or, in my case while pressing the Arm button on the V-Studio console) toggles Arm and Input Echo on or off at the same time. Arm and Echo go on and off together. Shift-Arm to get a track ready, and Shift-Arm to disarm and move to the next track. This is really convenient on a console where you can just hold shift and move along the channel strip Arm buttons one by one. Seems like a small thing but with 6 lead takes and 12 harmony tracks on the screen, all that mousing around is slow and confusing. I don't like to hit record and then see the singer wave her arms because she can't hear herself.

We weren't going to tell ya about it; but now that you've figured it out...well. Now ya know! You should really have a look at the keyboard shorcuts pages in the help file. I've printed them out onto double sided pages that I've laminated and keep at my workstation like a flipchart. I've rearranged them a bit so they fit neater on pages. I can send you a PM with the MS word doc or pdf file if you like. Let me know.

Great tip. I'm wondering, where are all these UI shortcuts, not keyboard shortcuts, documented. Anybody have an idea? Thanks in advance, Paul

maybe i'm missing something, but isn't this what loop-recordings for? enable layers on a track, enable loop, record... each successive layer is muted for the new take

Loop and layers is good for multiple vocal takes, although not my style because of the way I comp and double, with multiple different Melodyne edits. Not sure how it would work for multiple harmonies, but a good thought.

fair enough, and you can drag the layers/wavs into new tracks for comping etc.. so long as you don't need to hear the previous takes on a layered/looped track it can be quite a time-saver :)
