Any Graphic Artists around these parts???

Maybe you could recommend a simple "photoshop" like program I could use to produce a simple logo I've got in my headbone.  I'm thinking about opening an offshoot to my commercial broadcast business as it is sucking so mightily lately.  We've got a room sitting idle that I'm going to make a special "mix" room where folks could bring their midi/audio projects done in stuff like garageband and such and mix them using whatever of the leventy jillion plugs/instruments I've got that they might need to polish their...er...well, you know...into bright shiny diamonds.  Or at least that'll be the pitch.  I know exactly what I want for the very simple logo I need for brochures and web marketing and such but don't exactly know how to produce it.  What's the best cheap program for producing simple graphics and fonts??

    Adobe Photoshop Elements is good, so is Corel Photo Paint..both have trial versions. Gimp is OK, not so intuitive IMO, but it's a freebie. If you get stuck, my good friend Tim is a freelance designer, specializing in logos. ;-)

    I agree with James... I only have PS Elements, and I can do a crazy amount of stuff with it.  It's all in how you use it.

    I've never used Gimp, but I understand that it's damn good for what it is.  Worth a try, but I think there's a pretty steep re-learning curve, if you are already  familiar with Adobe products.

    FWIW, The CHB paid less than the cost of a UAD Lex verb for a designer to design this for us:


    The whole process took about a week. No learning curve.

    Always good to have someone who's done things like this make 'em for you.  They know how to create vectorable art that scales, they know the right formats and they know the right resolutions too.

    When you consider that, to do it right, will take up quite a few hours of your time (if you already know what you're doing), then it's usually a pretty cost-effected choice too!
