Horns and EQ Dry/Wet and Separation

Hello,

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this post.

Essentially, my horns sound flat (not tonally) in relation to rhythm instruments (MIDI drums, bass, live guitar).  I'd like to bring them to the forefront without being overbearing.  However, despite my best efforts, horns (and some strings) sound like they are sitting in the mix.  I've played with EQs to try and separate these lead instruments, but they seem to sit in the mids (again, I've played with EQ to try to separate).   If anyone has any swell advice regarding getting horns to the forefront without overbearing the mix, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks again for reading,

Dan

Are you using synth, sampled or real horns (saxes, trumpet, trombone, .. )?

Just dip the EQ around the problem areas (mids you say) in the other instruments to make room, easier if you have your instruments bussed, then use automation to bring EQ back up when horns are not playing :-)
