What's the next stage

Hi,
I've just had to reinstall X1 Producer, after a few problems last night, nothing was opening
and when it did, if I tried to add a soft synth it would crash, any project that had a soft synth
would also crash on opening, I managed to open all my current projects using the safe mode
and remove any soft synths.
So now that I've reinstalled, can anyone please tell me where I go from here
regarding patches, roll backs etc. I haven't yet installed Expanded because I can't remember where
I go from here, I've just installed X1 Producer, nothing else.

Thanks
John

If you're doing a complete re-install, it's vital that you delete the necessary Registry Keys after uninstalling.

    Thanks to djjhart@aol.com for this:
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    1) Completely un-install SONAR from your computer. This is normally done from Start | Programs | Cakewalk. This will not remove any of your project files or audio data.

    2) Next you will want to open the Run Command

    a) In Windows XP this can be done by going to Start | Run
    b) In Windows Vista and 7 this can be done by holding down the ‘windows’ key and pressing ‘r’

    3) At the prompt type regedit and click OK.

***Backup your Registry before making edits - you do this by clicking the File menu, Export Registry File.

    4) Now delete the following Registry keys:
     HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\X1
     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\X1

*Please note that this will remove any effects presets and key bindings you may have made in Cakewalk. You can back these up separately if you like, using Options|Key Bindings, Tools|SONAR Plug-in Manager, and Options|Colors. Hit F1 in these views for detailed instructions on how to do this.

    5) Open the 'Run' command again.

    6) Copy and paste the following into the prompt:   %appdata%\Cakewalk

    7) This will open your Cakewalk Application Data folder, right-click on the SONAR folder and choose rename.

    8) Rename this folder SONAR X1 Backup.

    9) Open the 'Run' command again and type msconfig Click OK and then click on the Startup tab at the upper right of the window that opens.

    10) Uncheck all items listed, click OK, then restart your computer. You can always recheck those items again at a later time.

    11) Then reinstall SONAR. Make sure to have any virus scanners disabled on installation. It is not required or recommended to turn off any windows services.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The reinstall sequence should be as follows:

    1. Sonar X1
    2. Sonar X1c
    3. Expanded
    4. Sonar X1d

Only problem now, is when I try and complete the registration process, it says invalid registration code
I'm running as administrator, I've typed the reg code, rather than copy and paste, I've got work to be finished by next week, to be mastered, I'm really p****d off now with Sonar !!!!!!!!
I've done everything as the post from Jonesey says, what now ?

You should have a 2 registration codes: one for Sonar Producer and one for the Expanded upgrade.

You'd better outline exactly what you did, in sequence.

Don't forget, you would have had to get X1 registered & authorised BEFORE attempting to install X1c, or Expanded, or X1d

I uninstalled X1, then as per your first reply, carried out steps 1 to 11
installed my 4 discs, hit the desktop icon, right side of the mouse, hit run as
administrator, it then had the box with the serial number in it, and I then added
reg number, it then said, invalid reg number, but it's the correct one, so I can't
              get by the first part.

So the S/N starts off with CXSP100nnnnnnnnnn yes?

If I remember correctly, you don't need to supply your Registration code immediately, just the Serial Number.

You have 30 days in which to register it. If you can't get past this bit maybe you've put the wrong serial number in?

Yes that's correct it starts with CXSP etc. I then got the serial number from my C/W account page and entered that
so I'm sure it must be the correct one.

May I make the following suggestion to the already excellent installation instructions...

Mostly for Windows 7 users (but also applicable to Vista):

1] Deactivate UAC (Control Panel --> User Access Control)
2] Always right-click on the installation executable (all of them) and "Run as Administrator"

Unless you fully uninstalled it (meaning you went into the registry and deleted all references to Sonar) it may think you have Expanded still installed. Did you try entering the CXXP serial #?

Yes, I tried that, and it said wrong serial number, I'm really stuck on this one, I've obviously
               sent an email to C/W.
