Project to MP3 export results in VST tracks timing issues
I've recently exported a project made of audio clips and recorded VST instruments to an MP3 file. To my surprise, the VST tracks appear every so slightly off tempo, like a milisecond late in playback. As it is a rather rhythmic piece, the delay in playback is just about noticeable and thus disturbing (at least to my ears!). The track was exported at 44100, 32 bit depth and with triangular dithering. Any input as to why this could be, and how to resolve it would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Not that I have a solution.. but if you export to wav instead, do you notice the delay ?

Yea, exporting to a wave file might be a great idea. Maybe you should be bouncing your MIDI to Audio , before exporting it. Sometimes Pc's cannot handle all the processing. Maybe your pc is one of those Cj

Exporting to wav should be your first export before even thinking about mp3. Make sure you export @ 44.1KHz 16bit with dithering on. When you're happy with your wav, then think about converting it to an mp3

Thanks for all the valuable input, gents! I'm running a PC Core 2 Quad, 8GB RAM on Win 7 (64bit) - I doubt it would strain that easily but am by no means an IT Expert! I bounced MIDI tracks to Audio (no timing issues noted on playback) , exported the Project (both Entire Mix and Master Output only) to *.wav at 44.1kHZ and 16 bit.....with the same end result, on both counts. The VST's in question are Kontak 5 and Ueberschall Liquid Trumpet. Could that 'hide' an issue? If all fails, guess I'll eventually dust off my trusted Korg D12 for a little recording session

Did you go about this by using the "Freeze Synt" option ? No, by just 'bouncing to clip'.......heck, I wouldn't even know how to "Freeze Synth" so you might indeed be on to something. Further manual reading I guess. HOWEVER, on a whim, I tried to export the project to *.wav by just 'unchecking' the 64 bit Engine part option in the export menu - and guess what, the lag disappeared completely God forbid somebody asked me to explain what that actually entailed - but it worked, and the D12 stays in the closet

I'm still learning the jargon also :) Bouncing a track can be applied to midi or audio track. It will merge all the selected clips and make it one long clip. CJaysMusic suggested to bounce midi to audio.. It is more like printing the midi to an audio track, and the means in Sonar to do so is via freezing the synth track. This option only appears if you move your mouse to the correct place - which is the left column of the track (the one with track name). Make sure it's the track you are pointing your mouse at (the bottom one).. and not the track folder (top). When you right click on the correct location, you will see the "Freeze" option, and you shall further select "Freeze Synth". You can try to export and see if there is still any delay. If you need to do further editing, you will have to unfreeze the synth first.

Ah.. unchecking 64 bit option did the trick.. are you running X1 in 64 bit ?

Thank you for all this valuable input, tomixornot - I appreciate it! Yes, I run X1 (Studio) on 64 bit, actually - still strange that this option did the trick......I'll try your recommendation on Freeze Synth later. Thanks again!
