Superior Drummer in X1 - Issues

Just bought superior drummer and got it all downloaded etc and have it working perfectly in toontrack solo (outside sonar X1)however when I place it as a vst in sonar, the patches do not load, there appears to be a signal but under the memory and status section at the bottom left hand corner of SD it as a patch of lets say 560 MB but 0 of it has loaded.

Any users have any solutions?

Just a thought I have noticed that some time it starts to load samples as I play.  Have you tried the load samples button?

If you have caching enabled, samples do not load until they're played. (This is a nice feature for minimizing your memory footprint later on in the mixing process.) Make sure the "Cache" button is not lit.

Sounds like the old 32 bit Superior in 64 bit Sonar problem.

Have you downloaded and installed the latest Superior updates from your Toontrack account? If not do so. The update will give you the option to install the 64 bit version, follow the instructions to the letter as there are some pitfalls you need to avoid.

I am not near a computer until tomorrow guys so I will check then.

Wookie, I noticed on toontrack solo that it actually started to load while I played so Ill try it, but not sure it worked for me. I am not familiar with the load button you talk about though?

Bitfliiper, I know the button you are talking about so I will double check that.

Glynn, I was afraid that may be the reason, as far as I am aware I downloaded all available files and selected the 64bit version for all, however in terms of order and correct sequence I am not so sure I found the whole thing a little complicated to get up and running. If none of the above dont work then a complete reinstall maybe the only solution here me thinks.

    Thanks Guys, be back tomorrow.

    No luck with this lads,

the cache button is not an issue. The load button does nothing? The image below shows a screenshot, labelled in the red is the area that differs from my toontrack solo (outside sonar) , as you can see 0MB is loaded.

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I have such little patience for stuff like this.

I just had this identical problem with SD.  I went back and  forth with tech support from SD, and they insisted that I upload and install the latest upgrade (ver. 2.3.0), and install both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions, and all would be well.  Not so.  The 64 bit version went into the 64 bit files, but there were no sounds in that file.  I had to copy the sound files from the 32 bit location to the 64 bit location by hand, and even that didn't work.  Eventually, I moved the .dll file for the 64 bit version into the file with my sounds, and it finally loaded the sounds into SD while in Sonar.  Tech support says that's wrong, wrong, wrong, because future upgrades won't find the .dll file to upgrade, but I say if it's working, then I'll cross to that bridge when I get there.  All I know is that it works again.  I've seen enough people on this forum having problems with SD to think that their upgrade process is less than ideal.  Thank God I love the sounds so much.

Tech support was right and it will cause you to have to do this every time you update.

Most people forget to go into SONAR VST scanner and create a scan path to the location of the Superior Drummer dll file.  Specific instructions for that have been posted in the forum numerous times and a forum search should turn them up fairly easily.  After that has been done, rescan your VST plugins and things should work out for you.

Obviously if superior drummer opens in sonar then it CAN locate the .dll file. The samples must be the issue here, maybe a pathway is wrong.

Ive contacted toontrack and hopefully I can get this sorted without having to manually drag stuff around.

If not then just buy a damn drumkit.

Dave, I know this is the right way, but I did that to a tee, and it failed.  I know about setting the path to SD and its sounds.  All that and more, but for some reason it doesn't work that way for me.  I suggest this alternative because I know it works.  When it's time to upgrade I'll put the .dll file in its proper place, but if it's working for me now, then I may not upgrade.  I feel there's a flaw in the system when one has to manually move the sound files to the 64 bit file instead of SD doing it automatically.

If SONAR finds the 32 bit version and does not find a 64 bit version, it will open the 32 bit in the Bitbridge adapter.  If you see the Bitbridge icon in the upper left hand corner of the Superior Drummer window then SONAR has opened the 32 bit version of SD2.

EDIT: I looked in your screen capture and you are definitely running the 32 bit version of Superior Drummer.

Do a Windows search to find the other Superior Drummer.dll and create a path to it in the VST scanner.

    Dave,

I know for a fact that under vst's, only SD 32 bit is available?? this would suggest that sonar doesnt locate the 64bit at all then? which maybe the reason it isnt working as the toontrack solo version I think is 64bit?

Open Toontrack Solo and look at the right hand side of the top black bar of the Superior Drummer window.  If you are running TTSolo 64 bit then it will say the version number and the bit rate.  (Mine says V 2.3.0 (64-BIT))

Now go to the TTSolo Options and go to Set Paths to VST Plug-Ins.  You should see the path to your Toontrack plug-ins.  Recreate the same path in the SONAR VST scanner.  Rescan your VST plug-ins in SONAR and you should be golden.

I vaguely remember reading that the 64 bit dll must be in a folder labeled "64 bit" otherwise it doesn't get picked up properly either for SDs internal workings.

Mine is located in my  C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\Toontrack directory.  When you install Superior Drummer you have to pay attention to the screens and also read the ReadMe files closely and this will all be created for you.  I have to purge my installations to complete newbie status (including a registry cleaning) to test installers several times a year.

Anytime I've had problems it's because I got in a hurry and flew through the dialog windows without carefully reading what they say.  User error every time and easily fixed by an uninstall and a careful re-install.

    Mine all works.
I just had a vague recollection going back to the first 64 bit versions of Sup Drummer that the last folde was always labeled 64 bit. That's my current default arrangement as per the Toontrack Installer anyway.
Sorry if I've clouded up the matter with unnecessary info.

David, Thanks a mil brother got it working.

Simply pointed the X1 vst scan to the 64bit folder (pointed by toontrack solo) and it worked straight away, coo.

Although one thing I noticed is that the total now = 568mb and the loaded samples is like 1793mb, how is that possible?

Anyway if frickin works which is the main thing.
