No free update for Melodyne 1.3 users...
I was just informed by Melodyne that 1.3 users will NOT be getting an update to fix the memory leak (or fix their way of working around sonar x1 d's fastbouncing issue---2.1, I've been told IS fastbouncing). Don't like feeling like I'm being forced into a $99 upgrade. Bug squashing should've been included in the ticket price. Just wanted to inform, as I'd been waiting patiently for an update to 1.3, and was disappointed when I learned otherwise.

Yeah, I know what you mean. SONAR 6 Users are still complaining that bug fixes in 8.5.3 were not back ported to their earlier version.

Also, their download now only works with internet explorer. Took several e-mails to their support people before it worked. Its nice but even with this version, only small changes remain inaudible. I only use it occasionally, so I probably won't be buying an upgrade again.

@bapu: 1.3 is the immediate previous version. You cannot compare that to S6 and X1. $99 is pretty steep considering the minimal functional improvements. Most will be buying it for the fixes. I also thought WTF when I got the upgrade e-mail from celemony.

Today software developers rarely (if ever) back port any fix to even the latest previous version. I was working for a (once) major MRP software vendor. We *only* provided fixes for an immediate past release if we had adequate paid annual maintenance customers (which we did). Audio software companies offer no such incentives to stay on the previous release and expect continual fixes. Fact of life. It would behoove us all to live with it (whether we like it or not).

Just wanted to inform, as I'd been waiting patiently for an update to 1.3, and was disappointed when I learned otherwise. This does not surprise me at all. I got the same response concerning their "Libguide" bug crashing Sonar, if we want it fixed then we have to buy the upgrade. I"ve been very vocal about this on their forum (frankly surprised I haven't been banned) and I am not alone as there are plenty of folks there with Sonar related problems. Melodyne's response is always "It has been fixed in 2.0". Celemony's apparent policy of forcing customers to a paid upgrade in order to fix proven, and in some cases long outstanding bugs (re Libguide) in Melodyne is abysmal customer service. I always upgrade to the latest and greatist version of software but I'll not spend another cent with this dis-reputable company. Sorry for the rant but their "buy the upgrade" response to their many complaints has really ticked me off.

FWIW, I refused to upgrade from Melodyne Plugin to Melodyne Editor for just these reasons. Plugin is rock solid, whereas Editor is just plain bug ridden. And to NOT allow both products to coexist on the same machine is the height of arrogance. So I am waiting til EVERYONE is happy with Editor, and getting A LOT done with Plugin. Poco

Early last December, Celemony sent an email saying the upgrade to Melodyne editor 2.0 was available to me as a registered user for $99. That upgrade included major new features like extended timing tools, true scale & tuning, re-wire support, blob-highlighting on playback, etc. $99 is a fair price for such an upgrade. Then, early this month, Celemony notified me that there was a FREE 2.1 update that finally takes care of the Sonar problem. Basically, Celemony is not charging for the Sonar fix. It's unfortunate for those who don't want to upgrade for the extra features of Melodyne 2.0...but expecting Celemony to add the Sonar fix to earlier versions for free is like expecting Cakewalk to go back and give all Sonar 8.5 users the Expanded features of X1. I completely understand that this is an upgrade for users of the CURRENT version of the program. Since the code has been modified for Melodyne 2.0, they probably can't go back and apply the Sonar fix for earlier versions anyway. With it's incredible features, Melodyne must be an amazingly deep and complicated program to create. They're not bad guys. I'd just as soon keep my $99, too, but the added features and the Sonar fix are well worth it.

+1 @melmyers I've bought into other sofware update and just over 10 months later they came out with a new version which they wanted more for than the version that I had just bought. Well more than $99 I can tell you. Even then they are going to update the software yet again very soon to finally employ 64 bit engine. I don't have to name the software. If you have used it, you will have a good idea by now. $99 is a pitance compared to what other companies want for an upgrade and increased functionality.

That's just it though, Sonar informed Celemony of the memory leak over 7 months ago...This should've been addressed first, in Melodyne 1. Instead of fixing THEIR bad coding, they put out version 2, which didn't even fix the problem. I always do the paid upgrades So long as the company supports what they are putting out. If I'm not being supported in Version 1, I'm not going to be very confident that I'll be supported in version 2. Version 2 may end up flawed to the point of needing version 3 if support continues in this 'Pattern'

Unless you are into special tunings or need rewire, this upgrade doesn't come across as major. Now, if the flanging effects had been addressed, or the formants improved, THAT would have been interesting. I also don't feel you can compare fixing a memory leak with backgrading 8.5.3 with Expanded's features.

melmyers .......Basically, Celemony is not charging for the Sonar fix. Respectfully - yes they are. 1.3 is unusable for the most part in Sonar because of the libguide and memory leak issues. I am not asking for a free upgrade, or enhanced capabilities. All I'm asking is that the software I paid for function as advertised. It does not.

you sure know, that a manufacturer of a product you buy is obliged to deliver a product free of defects. If you discover that that the product doesn't fulfill advertised abilties you bought if for (for example by anyone else proofing to you that the cause of a malfunction lies within the manufacturers product), the manufacturer is obliged to correct the defect free of charge, or offer you a compensation for expenses to use the bought product as adverstised and documented... So you bought the product "Melodyne v1", which has a proven defect, preventing you from using the product it was advertised for and you bought it for... Now, what are you gonna do, when you buy a new car "v1", which the manufacturer said will be able to cruise around corners by steering with a wheel, and you notice, that the delivered car simply doesn't anymore after going anything above 30mph, due to a defect, discovered and provable by a garage (after you survived the horror). After cruising savely with vmax 10mph for some month, the manufacturer will start selling a car "v2", which is proven to be able to cruise around corners at any speed. Would you buy the subsequent car "v2"? What would you do? You got rights, you know? You aren't a cash cow, are you?

I recently upgraded from 1.3 to 2.1 and puchased mine through Sweetwater for $69 semolians. Worth every penny. Great new features and...so far...rock solid stability inside and outside Sonar. If you are a Melodyne Plugin user who's been waiting for a stable Editor...you got it. Go get it.

This is a bad thread for Melodyne when Autotune is the industry standard, Izotope has the spankin new Nectar, and Sonar has Roland's V-Vocal. I've always wanted Melodyne, and the software, some $600 for the complete version, has always been beyond my budget. This thread... bad one for Melodyne..

Unless you plan on using Melodyne as a multitrack recorder you don't need the "Studio" version. You can do almost anything you need...including creating harmony parts, fixing pitch and timing problems...even creating new "double tracks" with different formant settings...also even disassembling mixed tracks into their various components, tweaking to your liking, and re-assembling them...all with Melodyne Editor which (IIRC) is $300 or thereabouts.
