X1 > Reason

This is not a a gripe thread - just being real.  I use Sonar X1 Producer and have purchased the majority of the extras.

Some of the other producers I work with use Reason; hence I have had to learn both formats with each having their goods and bads.  However the reason (not a pun) for the post:

Reason just made a serious major move with a new upgrade which seemingly is going to make VST's a thing of the past.  I am more familiar or should say comfortable with X1 but wow it is what it is take serious notes "CAKEWALK"

Just saying....

Care to elaborate? How is it going to make VSTs a thing of the past?

    The idea is a laugh.

The rack extensions announcement was when I gave up on Propellerhead.  I picked up NI Komplete instead of waiting for Reason 6.5.  While Sonar has its faults, it has a broadly flexible workflow and compares favorably to Reason in a number of ways.  And Komplete is just wonderful.

But more most importantly.  If I decide that Cakewalk is an incarnation of the devil, I can take my investment in NI and go somewhere else.

Reason and Sonar are too different imo to compare. Reason is a gresat tool for hip-hop, EDM and synth driven pop but does not work as the heart of a studio imo

You can compare Propellerheads Rack Extensions to the Pro Channel.
It is a proprietary way to use effects (or synths), from other developers.

Now, the way Propelleheads has implemented it, is better than normal VST.
All devices can be interconnected. They respond to eachohter CV or Gate output and more. So all devies can interact with eachother. This is not possible with normal vst.

Nice touch also is that the Propellerheads Shop lets you try for 30 days before you buy.

It certainly is not a laugh.

I agree, the Rach Extension is just the same thing as the Pro Channel - in principple. A really cool idea. In Sonar we can also use VSTs, however. I wonder what the future of the PC will be and if it will get some of the interconnectivity that Reason now have.

However, I'm no longer a customer of Propellerhead. To me, the new Reason took a wrong turn. But sure seems to be getting powerfull. Cakewalk need to get more 3rd party developers on the Pro Channel band wagon

Funny how the modular approach is really making its mark on the music software industry these days

Whoops.  Meant to say that the idea of Rack Extensions replacing VST is a laugh.

There are some cool ideas in Rack Extensions, and they did do a nice job of tying it to the rest of the program.

Still, just as I would never by a Pro Channel version of a synth, I would never buy a RE version of one either.  I can't see why I should fund my vendor lock in.
