My twist on Billy Joel's ..."MOVIN OUT"...

Well... I listen to your advice on doing a cover to get out of my funk.  I decided on butchering a Billy Joel song.  I didn't want it to sound like a copy so I played it as if Billy lived in Paris.  A Parisian/slow Polka vibe that I was diggin until it was all said and done.

My twist on Billy Joel's. . . .  "MOVIN OUT"

As always comments and suggestions are always appreciated.

THANKS

Gotta like a song with a squeeze box in it :-)

    And you mispelled Pursian?

Ssssseems like the vox could be de-essed a bit more, but I'm listening on buds (good ones though)

Very well recorded--especially the guitar.  The tempo dragged in the beginning, but it worked better once you started singing.  I like it.

Great job on the vox and harmonies. Sounds good mix wise.

Hey Kev reallly cool, Billie Joel is amazing.  If your looking for any crits I would suggest giving a little more life to the bass line and picking up the tempo a bit.

Otherwise I think it sounded good, the vox was great.  I really dig the song

Congratulations for tackling Billy Joel.  I used to do his cover songs, and it wasn't easy.  This is a good version that's recorded well.  It does sound like you were having fun doing this, and that's not always easy to impart in a recording.

    All the best,

    Hey Ed
    THANKS BUDDY!

    Hi 55
The tempo... I was going to change but was so excited that I finished a song I forgot to speed it up a smidge. THANKS for the ears.

    Yo Robbie
Those darn ssss, check!  It just had that squeeze box vibe. THANKS much!

    Hello James
    THANK YOU for the thumb!

    Hey Daryl
I didn't think a Billy Joel song would be hard to sing but it was a challenge to hit some of those notes.  A lot of them I didn't hit but it was a fun.  THANKS!

    THANKS MUCH!

    Hello Shad
GREAT to see you back! A good mix is what I like to hear.  THANKS for the ears.

    Hi Mike
I tried to put my spin on it but you are correct on the tempo.  I THANK YOU for the props and the listen.

    Yo Lynn
It was a lot harder to do then I thought.  Especially the singing part and no way was I going to even attempt to play this on a piano. The mix ended up being 34 tracks. THANK YOU very much for the props.

    Hey Josh
THANKS for the kind word it made my day. I always appreciate the use of your ears and help.

    THANKS AGAIN!

Sounds good to me - I'm not overly familiar with the original, though I do remember hearing it, but if I didn't know it was a cover, I would happily accept this as the way it was meant to be. Minor nit-pick - the screechy tyres bit - doesn't really fit the mood for me, needs to be more subtle than that - just a slow drive off into the distance as the music fades would be more in keeping.

I like this better than the original. I think it's more laid back and more fun to listen to.

    Hi Kev,

How have you been? Great job on this tune. The accordion is a perfect fit IMO.

Your vocal sounds great and there's also a little acoustic guitar lick you do that I like a lot, too.

Nice job all around and it's always a pleasure to hear you.

    Hi Scotty
THANK YOU very much for the props and ears.
    Hello Gary
Glad to see you around.  I've been having a dry spell so I thought a cover could at least get me back in the studio. Not my best but it was fun.

    Hey James
Not my fav either but it was calling me to put a squeeze box on it. The music world needs more squeeze box!  THANKS for your ears

    THANKS AGAIN GENTS!

That is good Kev. The wife and I were married in 1978. We pretty much wore out out copy of 52nd Street. We got to see BJ in the OMNI in Atlanta (nosebleed seats, but still...) in the mid 80s. You did the song credit! I like it a lot.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Hey J
Ohhhhhhhhhh yes! 1978  that was a great year.  52nd street every time I play that album it brings back great memories of the 70's. THANK YOU for the props and the listen its much appreciated.

You have to play 53nd Street on either a 70s Pioneer or Sansui system to fully appreciate it. Remember the 70s stereo wars? Stereos got REALLY good before it was over. Probably why I have this tinnitus... laff.

Thanks again for the great cover!
