As far as I can tell, only selecting the MME driver in X1 will output a signal to be recorded in Camtasia as 'System sounds', which has been ticked to be recorded for obvious reasons.
All other driver options in X1 prevents Camtasia from doing this, including WDM/KS.
Needless to say the god awful MME driver latency is driving me bloody mad!!
You might need to route a cable from in to out (make a loop) on your audio device and set it up in Windows and Camtasia.
Here are some instructions pulled from an internal Cakewalk document (thanks Seth!) explaining how to get Camtasia to record using ASIO with a VS700R. Maybe it will be of some help and can be applied to your situation. Mainly it should help with the somewhat complex Windows routing required.
Cabling 1. Connect a SPDIF cable from VS-700R SPDIF Out to VS-700R SPDIF In
a. Make sure direct monitoring is
disabled for Digital 1 in Direct Mix
Configuring SONAR 2. Set VS-700 ASIO latency to 6ms or higher
3. Enable Share Drivers With Other Programs
4. Open your SONAR project
a. Make sure all tracks and/ or busses feed to the Master Bus
b. On the Master Bus create a Send and rout it to VS-700 Digital1 (I have renamed my Digital1 in the driver’s Friendly Names to Camtasia)
c. Set this Send to PRE fader
d. NOTE: This will be the signal Camtasia receives from SONAR
e. Create a second Send on the Master Bus and rout it to the Main Out or Sub Out, whichever you do
not have your monitors connected to (I have renamed my Main Out in the driver’s Friendly Names to Headphones)
f. Also set this Send to PRE fader
g. Mute the Master Bus (note that you will be monitoring SONAR from this Send)
Configuring the VS-700R 5. Open the VS-700’s Mic Pre page and set the level as desired
6. Now open the Direct Mix tab
7. Turn up the fader for whichever channel your mic is plugged into
8. Route Direct Mix only out of the analogue output you do not have your monitors connected to (my monitors are routed off the Sub Outs so I have my Direct Mix routed to the Main Outs)
Configuring Windows 1. Open Windows Control Panel and click on Sound
2. Click the Playback tab
3. Right-click on the VS-700’s output that you
are using for your monitors (I use Sub) and choose Set as Default Device
4. Click the Recording tab
5. Right-click on VS-700’s Digital1 and choose Set as Default Device
6. Double click on Digital1
7. Click on the Listen tab
8. Check Listen to This Device
9. Under Playback through this device choose Default Playback Device
10. Click OK
11. Click OK again to exit the Sound panel
Configuring Camtasia 12. Open Camtasia
13. Click Record the Screen
14. In the small Camtasia transport-like box in the bottom right corner of your screen click the small downward facing triangle next to the Audio On button to bring up the list of available recording devices
15. In the list of recording devices select 1-2 (4-VS-700) as your mic input
16. Make sure Record System Audio is checked
17. Click on Options to configure audio settings and capture settings (it defaults to 22khz Mono for some reason, but keeps the FPS setting)
