Suggestions for audio interface please
I recently built a new PC (specs in sig) and still using my 8 year old Delta 1010...even though the new mobo has a PCI slot I've read that it can be troublesome with PCI. I don't need more than 1 pre-amp and a MIDI connection...any suggetions? Thanks very much, Randy

I'm still using my trusty Frontier Dakota and a pair of Frontier Tango boxes for a total of 16 i/o. I might be in your position as I used up my only spare PCE slot this week. Any upgrades involving new cards is going to cost me.

This http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2584566 is just few subject lines down the page. I have a Delta 1010 still hanging in there and performing well. If I were to change tomorrow - I would buy a Presonus 44vsl based on good performance recommendations. Lots of folks like Focusrite, MOTU and Roland products. I think everybody likes RME. Price point versus value, the Presonus looks solid and can be had for around $275.

If it's just a mic pre & Midi you want, consider the Focusrite Saffire 6 USB I've just bought one for my secondary rig and it does what it says on the tin. You actually get 2 Focusrite Pre's, Midi I/O, monitoring facilities and 4 plugins from the Scarlett range, plus a whole load of other loops & a copy of Novation BassStation! For £140 this was an absolute steal.

One of the best low cost deals (sound to # ratio) is the TC Konneck 6. One preamp (very good for ic) included w/ the 2X2. Great conversion - see the SOS review. $200, FW and the drivers have been stable for a few years. No midi, but there are cheap USB solutions. That's the way I'd go, but I'm a TCK 48 user. I'm not sure how much conversion difference shows up, esp. in the low end of things, between this and say the Saffire etc. But it is nice not to have to wonder. @

And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

g_randybrown Thanks guys, lots of helpful info. I'm thinking for no more than I need wouldn't this $85 Tascam product work well...I like the design and Tascam has been around forever ...anyone had experience with one? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/657978-REG/Tascam_US_122MKII_US_122MKII_USB_2_0.html The reviews I read are good except one in 2010 regarding the drivers. Thanks again, Randy EDIT: ah hell... not sure why I didn't think about/notice this but it doesn't even have TRS out to feed my monitors. EDIT 2: so since a lot of people seem to like Focusrite what about this http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/847355-REG/Focusrite_SAFFIRE_6_USB_2_0_Saffire_6_USB.html my main concern is it shows to be 1 x USB 1.1 compliant port ...Would it work with a USB 3 port (I'm limited on USB but have several USB 3 ports available)? Tascam was the only sound device that I have run up against that I couldn't get configured. I have a buddy who bought one of the USB Tascam boxes and he was getting pops and clicks like mad. I went over to his house fully expecting that within 15 minutes I'd have him up and running. An hour later I was still unable to get it working properly. He sold the unit on ebay and bought the Roland equivalent product and plugged it in and it worked right from the start.

I had exactly the same experience with the Saffire - run the installer, plug it in, open up Sonar. Job done.

There are low end Quad Capture and I believe a Dual Capture. There is one out there called Scarlatti that looks nice. I recomend Sweetwater for the purchase. Outstanding service and great Warranty. Sorry for the shameless plug but it has really paid off for me in the warranty area.
